SOURCE: how do i change the altenator and where is it

Your alternator is attached to the crank on the left side, under the cover, remove the cover, disconnect the wires, pull the stator, you might want to get a book on this for their tips, but that is about it basically. Are you sure it is bad? I had an 86 that had corroded wires coming out of the case there, and once I put them back together, I was back in business. Check it out.

SOURCE: Can anyone tell me how to remove fairing on right

You can get at the Reg/Rect by taking the fairing and dash cover off. You don't have to remove the right side fairing. I have done it this way. Remove the seat, false tank, handlebar/clock adjust buttons cover, vent cover around the steering, right inner fairing cover, windshield, dash cover. Then you have access to the Reg/Rect. The wiring loom for it runs back towards the right speaker, the connectors there split to the Stator and noise filters on the yellow wires. The Yellow wires can also be connected to any of the yellow connectors. You can also join a Cavalcade email group accessed through www.suzukicavalcade.com hope this helps.

Hi have a 1986 cavalcade 1400 LX was running fine last week now it won't start at all any ideas

Hi, Jim if it turns over then the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty MAP, CKP, O2, TPS, sensors.
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box.
17. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
18. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
19. Check for engine trouble codes.

I'm having fuel problems. Does the cavalcade have an electric fuel pump? Best way to check it out.

Yes. It is located under the right (sitting on the bike) below the seat. The fuel fitler is located there as well. Remove the seat and forward rear wheel guard portion that is under the seat. The fuel pupm can be operated by pressing the starter button only, if your clutch safety switch has not been bypassed. If it has, then the starter wil operate (and your cruise control will never operate) Pressing the starter only, allows you to "Prime" the carbs to fill the fuel bowls up proir to starting.
More info can be gained for these bike by joining the worldwide Suzuki Cavalcade email group via Suzuki Cavalcade.com hope this helps.

Rebuild kits are available for the clutch slave cylinder from www.cademaster.com under cavalcade parts. You will have to remove the secondary and rear wheel to do this job. While you are there you should fit the "Tracy" plug in the secondary. If it is too much for you, there is an emial group that can talk you through the steps required or there may even be someone nearby that can help. Join the group via www.suzukicavalcade.com

Cruise control wont work 1986 cavalcade 1400

Has the clutch safety switch been bypassed? - Does the bike start without the clutch pulled in? if so replace the clutch safety switch, most common cause of the Cruise not working, Remember that you must be in 5th gear, clutch & break levers out, foot off the break pedal, throttle twist grip not below idle - into the spring loaded portion below idle (There is a switch in there to turn the cruise to standby), The cruise switch on the right switch block is on. Any more than this, refer to www.suzukicavalcade.com and join the email group.

I am looking for a windshield for my 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade. Any ideas where I can find one?

www.cademaster.com has them listed on his site along with all the other Suzuki Cavalcade parts still available. Also look up the Cavalcade_USA group on Yahoo groups. I brought one of him and he sent it to New Zealand. Great guy even if his name is Tracy.
