'06 Harley Fatboy kills at cruising speed

My girlfriends '06 Fatboy with 3000 miles on it died twice this past Sunday on our 150 ride. Both times it happened at cruising speed (55 mph). The first time it started right up and the second time it had to sit for a minute or two. Any ideas on what could be the cause of this?

Sounds like maybe your ignition module is getting hot and shutting down, once this starts they gradually become more sensitive to heat and vibration need to replace to see if that is the problem no way to test unless you start it and hold a blow dryer on it if it kills the bike below operating temperatures that's probably your problem. but if you get it to hot with the blow dryer you could fry it all together. risky test I know I personally would try to remount the module someplace where there is more airflow and that will probably fix it too. had to do that with a sportster awhile back. it had an aftermarket crane cams hi 4 ignition behind the covers right next to the rotor cup on the end of the crank no flow what so ever. but that is where crane suggested putting it. I moved it out by the battery and he has never had a problem since.

First of all, your oil level has nothing to do with your bike stalling. Best way to check it is with engine cold. Shoot for halfway between full and add marks.Your levels are normal. The engine retains some oil after running. It takes awhile to drain back into the case. Please clarify your stalling problem. How fast were you going? Sitting still. Only upon startup after a drive?

This sounds stupid I know... but change out the spark plugs and stay with the standard plug, no platnium or irradium plugs.

After a short ride 40 miles.. My evo fatboy started backfiring sputtering an died. An will do nothing when the starter switch is pressed turning over just silence.

Perhaps a dead battery or blown fuse, first check on your fuse box to see for a blown fuse.If this happens then you have a short in your wire somewhere....

I have a 2002 fatboy and while it rides fine while cruising,it dies when I come to a stop.It wont idle unless I'm on the throttle

If your Fatboy is carb equipped you need to set the idle speed a bit higher. If you're still running the stock carb, remove the air cleaner cover. You'll see a square looking plastic top on the carb. Just to the right (toward the front of the bike) you'll see a screw. This is the idle stop screw. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed. Set the idle speed with the engine at full operating temp. It should idle at about 1000 RPM.

If your bike is fuel injected, you'll have to take it to a shop to get the idle speed set as it's done electronically.

Good Luck

I have a 97 Fatboy that sometimes loses spark

test or replace your ignition module, and you might find the actual prob by accident the connector for the module sometimes with age lose or only have intermittant contact.a can of electrical contact cleaner should take care of it but those symptoms scream ignition mod dont know why hd dealer couldnt find it but they dont put their best techs on older bikes

All is dead.

I'm always hestitant to offer suggestions on the newer Harleys, my experience is all on 1999 and earlier carb bikes. But try the standard stuff first. No horn or lights leads me to check my connections and fuses starting with the ground for the battery. Torque em up a little and see if it helps
