Loss of opl pressure

This is a just rebuilt 1974 850 cc motor. at start up and at speeds below 30 mph oil pressure is 45 to 60 psi but ten minutes at freeway speeds it drops drastically to less than 15 to 5 psi temp rises to about 20 to 30 degrees above normal

Might be the weight of oil you are using or brand. I've heard that Harley sportsters cant run amsoil because it thins to much once its warm and the oil pump can't make decent pressure on it. just a thought.

SOURCE: valve noise when the motor is hot from running at high way speeds

Go to 10w40 in the gearbox. The hydraulic lifters are balking at the 10w50. The oil needs to be liquid enough to 'inflate' the lifters properly. 50 weight oil is a bit to thick. It might take two oil changes to clear the 10w50 out of the lifters.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: low oil pressure at rocker box

The Ironhead Sportys have a tendency to do this when the Gerotor Gear Set is worn. These are the thin set of drive gears in the oil pump. HD Part # 26492-75. Do you have a problem WET SUMPING? This is when the oil drains from the reservoir into the crank case if the bike sits for a period of time and when you attempt to start it pukes oil from the breather tube. If so you need to check these gears. Gerotor Gear Sets inner/outer clearance should be .000 the shaft should have a clearance of .0005 and the feed gear height in the pump should be .011. Normal operating pressure when hot should be 4 psi at idle and 10-20 psi at 3500 rpm. The pumps generally have issues before the rocker bushings.

SOURCE: oil leaking

The fact that the air filled upper portion of the shock is still holding air doesn't change the fact that the o-ring seals in the oil filled portion at the bottom of the shocks are going bad. You are better off replacing both of them soon before it affects ride comfort and handling.

SOURCE: triumph bonneville t120 1968 low oil pressure

Several things could be at play: Type or weight of oil, confirm this first. Not to question the rebuild but if not done properly (improper bearing clearances, too large) the oil pressure can be low and perhaps a worn pump too. While I am unfamiliar with the engine and oil pump loaction I'd check it if your able too. You'll probably need a good set of feeler gauges to check this if these clearances are outside of the pumps limits the pump will be less able to create pressure; this is of course more evident when the oil heats up.
Another cheap fix is to use a heavier weight oil.
Hope this might help,
Tom

SOURCE: Oil light comes on and

try a new oil pressure sender,
you could also fit a gauge into the oil sender hole and see if it has oil pressure.
There could be other reasons like a faulty oil filter, problem with bypass in oil pump, or a shorted or broken wire causing the shut down and light on.
If it is actually losing oil pressure and shutting down it would probably be making strange noises

On a 09 ultra classic what is the proper oil pressure? 10 different people give ten different answers.

Hi Anonymous, start by checking oil level in tank and make sure it is between the add and full mark. With engine at normal operating temperature 180-230 degrees and the use of a 10 micron synthetic media oil filter, oil pressure will be 30-38 psi at 2,000 RPM and 3-5 psi. at idle. The oil pressure light is designed to come on at 2 psi. or less. To accurately test oil pressure remove oil pressure sending unit and install known good oil pressure gauge that reads 0-50, there might possibly be some plumbing required for hard to access points. If you are out in the middle of nowhere and there is no cell phone service and your oil pressure gauge isn't working and your oil pressure light is burned out, despair not, you still have one last line of defense left HYDRAULIC LIFTERS, as long as those tireless workers are quiet, you have oil pressure, maybe not much, but enough to get you down the road at a slow to moderate speed using the least amount of RPMS as necessary. Good luck

Hi, think i might can help you, have you done a fuel pressure test if not here what you need to do.

1. Start and run the engine. Verify normal fuel system pressure of 339

kPa +/- 34 kPa (49.2 psi +/- 5 psi).

2. Stop the engine. Verify that the fuel system pressure does not fall below

207 kPa (30 psi) in less than five (5) minutes.

3. If the fuel pressure does not fall below 207 kPa (30 psi) in less than five (5)

minutes, then the long crank time may not be due to the fuel system. Further

diagnosis must be made to the entire engine system.

Hope this helps you, because lack of fuel can cause a missfire and by what you said this is were i would start before spending any more money. If i can help just re post.

Thanks dodge tec

Had new motor put in chevy truck and oil pressure runs below 30ps

At 2000 RPM a new GM engine should be close to 45 psi for oil pressure. It'll drop to mid or high 30's at idle. Hope this helps.

1980 honda cx500 custom, when traveling at 55 mph and you want to go faster , it just flatlines and will not increase in speed, also the right plug gets black with oil after a couple of miles. the carbs...

Do a compression test on the bike if the psi in any cylider is below 100 psi the motor needs a ring job or valve job or both, the way to determine which engine component is weak (a leaking valve or worn piston rings) is as follows with an oil can squirt 2 or 3 times into the low pressure cylinder after noting the dry compression reading with no oil, if the compression reading increases more than 10 psi it is worn piston rings if the reading hardly changes at all it is a burnt vavle. If compression checks out ok the problem is either weak spark for that cylinder with the black plug or excessive gas or flooding from the carb.

Low oil pressure on 2001 Suburban

your oil sensor comes on at less than ten psi, you may have internal engine damage how many miles on engine, any gum up inside engine, you can try to put on a high pressure high volume melling oil pump to try to help for the time being, but you may need to have it torn and repaired.

Low oil pressure

Just guessing, but it sounds like you are loosing pressure from the bearings.....If you had the crankshaft journals cut, or if they were slightly out of round to begin with, this can happen. Cutting removes material...the journals on most modern engines are too thin to do this (same weight saving idea that gave us rotors that you need to throw away) After cutting, they go egg shaped. Not cutting and starting with out of round condition will essentially give you the same problem but may take a bit longer to fail.
Of course, check all clearances and sealing points, but I believe that's where you will find the problem.

it sounds like your oil pressure sending unit may be plugged by whatever took your pressure down to 5-8 psi the first time. this is extremely low pressure as i am sure you know but at 30 psi your light should go off i would replace the sending unit if your oil pressure is holding 30
