SOURCE: how do you adjust the tension on the timing chain

Hi blazinj
To adjust your cam chain.if you remove the small bolt in the top of the tensioner lock nut there is a 3mm thread in the adjuster rod.get your self a long 3mm screw or possibly a spoke (i use a tail lamp screw)thread it into the adjuster. Start the motor and with it idling undo the lock bolt(14mm head) and pull up on the screw just enough to get rid of the rattle. Dont overdo it. Then tighten down the locker. remove the screw, and refit the cover. Done. Dont forget to rate me for the advice. Cheers

What would make chain come off 82 honda nighthawk 650 while going about 40 and bike not say anything now

Badly worn chain and/or sprockets.

Chain tension incorrect - too loose.

Chain alignment wrong. Careless chain adjustment can result in the chain/rear sprocket (rear wheel) alignment to be out. The rear wheel and the chain centre lines should be exactly parallel.

Timing chain slapping when cold . can anyone tell me how to adjust timing chain on a 88 honda shadow vt 1100

hello
yes, there should be an timing chain adjuster sticking out the side.
they are self adjusting, so if you think it needs further adjustment, it probably means that your timing chain is stretched and its time for a new chain.

Best Regards
Big Al

Regular Suggested Maint.

If my memory is correct that is a chain drive with carbs on it so firstly if it doesn't have a fuel filter do yourself a favor and install one, usually a ford or mitsubishi inline one fits in the fuel line before the carbs, second always keep a good eye on the condition of the drive chain. keep it lubed and adjusted correctly. I have found that those two affect the driveablity of th ebike the most. If you wish to do more maintenance check out the clymer manual website and order a manual for it. it will have procedures for everything you will want to do.
