I have some gas tank problems with my Yamaha and I was wondering if it would be cheaper to DIY or take it to someone that does motorcycle repair in Tacoma? What do you think?

oily residue would not harm the engine...unless it had alot of dirt in it...was it a BRAND NEW tank, or refinished? A small ammount of oil in the fuel may make it smoke a little from the exhaust, and foul the plugs, but it would eventually go away as you refilled the tank.....do you have a fuel filter installed?....ALWAYS flush then new tank when you install...if it continues after another tank of gas , let me know and we will figure it out

i would guess that that is your fuel line and reconnecting it would be a good idea as leaking fuel and motorbike engines dont mix that well and normally result in your bike going up in flames

I have never seen a free one, Clymer or Hayes are good, used on E-Bay. The Factory one is the best.

Check on ebay for a shop manual or Clymer manual. owners manual won't do any good. You can usually find one ranging from 3 to 35 dollars. Also check http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums.html. It is an excellent forum for free information on anything you want to know about your XJ.
