There is a check ball that is set to keep that oil in the tank. The oil leaks down into the engine.

SOURCE: oil drain plug

Hi
It is located on the right side just under the oil tank ; if you follow the rudder hose that exits the rear right side of your oil tank it leads to the bottom of the frame under this is the oil plug. This hose has a plug clamped to the end of it or stuck into a prug that is welded to the frame.
After this unclamp and pull the plug to make sure that you have the dipstick out before pulling it loose.

Please do rate the solution as "FixYa" if found useful and revert for further assistance.
Thanks Rylee

The oil drain us usually a hose with a plug in it that is held by a clip on the frame. It us usually on the right hand side of the bike just behind and underneath the transmission side cover. Loosen the clamp and pull the plug out. The oil will run out of the tank. Replace plug and add new oil to the tank.

Do I check oil in 2007 heritage softail on jiffy stand or straight up?

Hi Anonymous, the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. Good luck

Bar oil leaks out when not in use

There will always be an amount of bar oil leakage when the saw is not in use, this is due to leakage through the tank breather, and oil caught up in areas of the saw which drain when the saw is stood, if there is not enough saw dust to dry the oil up ( this can happen useing long bars, but only cutting small logs ), if the oil leakage is not excessive i would suggest this is normal. The oiling is a constent loss system, so is not sealed as well as a car sump for example.

There are many things that can cause oil loss. The most common are a loose or missing oil drain plug, or a leaking oil filter. With either of these problems the oil can leak out very fast. Your mechanic will locate the oil leak as a first step, then I am sure they will then proceed to inspect the engine for internal damage due to oil loss. I would recommend a leakdown test to check for piston or ring damage, also you need to pay close attention to whether the engine has any new noises. If the leakdown test shows good results, and there are no new noises in the engine, your engine has a pretty good chance of surviving this ordeal. There are many possibility for the leak source, like worn seals, or the tow previously listed items, be sure to repair the engine where it does not leak, because loosing the oil can destroy the engine. Good luck with it.

Where is the drain plug located on a 2007 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic.

Looking under the bike up at the motor you'll see 2 drain plugs, 1 is motor and 1 is transmission.
Its easy to determine which is which because the transmission plug is vertical and the motor is horizontal.
Also you can drain the oil tank from the oil tank drain line which is plugged by a nipple on the frame. On the kickstand side of the bike, behind transmission.

Where is the oil drain plug on 2007 Heritage Softtail Classic and how to change oil?

Look at the bottom of the oil tank from the right side of the bike. You'll see one hose or pipe that goes downwards towards the back of the transmission. The hose will follow the frame and come out way down low on the backside of and slightly under the transmission. There is a plug in the hose or pipe. Take the plug out and the oil tank will drain.

To change the oil, drain the tank, change the oil filter, refill with three quarts of oil in the tank. You also have oil in your primary that should be changed every 5000 miles or so, and the transmission serviced at the same interval as the primary.

To drain the oil on the primary, there is a drain plug under the primary case at the very rear of the case. Remove this to drain the case. Refill the primary through the derby cover. Fill with oil until the level is just to the bottom edge of the clutch spring. 38-42 ounces of oil. Do not overfill or the clutch will drag and make finding neutral with the engine running impossible to find.

To drain the transmission, there is a small plug on the bottom side of the chrome cover on the right side of the transmission. Remove the plug, drain the tranny, and refill through the large plug that takes a hex key in the chrome cover. 20-24 ounces of transmission lube.

Good Luck
Steve

Dealer's usually tell you the amount you need if the bike is completely empty. Take a turkey baster and remove some oil, ride the bike and check the oil level again. I have seen to much oil blow the dip stick out and cover everything with oil and I have seen the oil tank split.
