Re: I bought my 2005 sebring a year ago and it is due for...
The 2.7l has a sludge problem. This could cause the stalling and loss of power. There's a few fixes, the new water pump (which is part of the problem) doesn't dump coolant into the oil pan. Easy way to check is to simply drop the oil pan.
There were no codes coming up when I took it in last week. I told them what the car was doing & that I needed it to pass smog & to change the oil. They quoted me 225.00 & that's what I pd. They say they did a tune up & the oil change I had requested. The car still did exactly what it did before so I took it back. I just got home from the shop. Now they say they replaced the ignition sensor and now a code came up 127.(I THINK) I was so mad I stayed in my daughter's car while she talked to the mechanic so I didn't hear it myself. Now my yellow light is back on & they say I need a map sensor. There are only 36,000 miles on my beautiful car & I'm broke, mad & REALLY confused.
Long story, short version-bought my used car from Fairway Chevrolet.(internet special for just over 10,000) Salesman knew I wanted it & after 3,000 down had me financed for 5 yrs at 20%. Exactly 2 weeks later car wouldn't start & was towed it to the shop. Waited for call & then called them. They had replaced the battery & didn't know it was still there.Service mgr apologized & promised to leave it at sales office for me to pick up. (they closed before I got off work & I had to take 2 buses)Twice noone knew where the car was & finally I said if you want it that bad keep it.They delivered it to my house after 2 weeks with a full tank of gas. It had to be smogged to register & only had a week to do it, but the light was on & I had to drive it to have it recycle to pass. I don't put alot of miles on so they gave me a RENTAL & said they might take it to a Chrysler dealer. They ended up running nearly 200 mi off & it passed smog. I vowed to NEVER deal with them again & routine maintenance is not covered with my warranty that has a 200.00 deductable. I just wanted to do maintenance & get it smogged. I can't afford that plus deductable & then 300.00 registration at once on top of my 400.00 payment. Get the picture? Chrysler makes such a nice looking car but I should've known better.I had an 83 Lebaron woody convertable that had to have the engine replaced at 27,000 miles. (another long story- pretty much my husband's fault putting a hole in the oil pan) By the time the car said "Your engine oil pressure is low, prompt service is required" it was pretty much a done deal-fried engine. Got a letter of apology from Lee Iacoca after the letter I sent when the mechanic told me the Mitsubishi engine that had been replaced was irregular & defective from day 1. Had no trouble with my next car,a used little 91 Geo Metro convertable that got 50 mpg & paid under $4,000. for even with very high mileage. Let hubby drive it & he totaled it getting hit by a 2001 Porsche. Geo took the beating well because we were both uninjured-felt like a ride on a tilt a wheel.Hubby got the airbag in the face that he deserved. I've been seeing the horror stories on the net about the 2.7 litre engine & checked my car & found it was built 11/04. I truly hope this isn't one of the ones that I read about. I really am at the end of my rope. Any more questions?
BTW, last night I was in the far left lane as I crossed a busy intersection when the car just died. I was able to coast to the center turn lane without getting hit. I threw on the hazzard lights & tried to restart. Usually it starts right up, but not this time. Tried about 4 times & then waited maybe a minute & it started & got me the 5 blocks back home. Light has gone off & on a few times. Currently off. Getting sick of this. Saw many reports like this & can't understand why Chrysler isn't owning up to the obvious problem.
