if you notice this van should have a statrer solenoid on the fender as well as on the starter, clean the body of the solenoid on the fender area and make sure that the ground cable is secure and tight do not wiggle which is just making it loose if it is so go under the vehicle and make sure that the cable is tight

ase mechanic here, sounds like the starter is on its way out, will have to replace since you cleaned all the connections, but in the mean time try hitting the solenoid portion with some object and see if the engine starts. if so the starter needs replacing.

A solenoid needs so much power to kick in.  I think your battery is getting old and not at full capacity.  Hove it check and replace if needed.

SOURCE: 1996 Saturn SL2 - No response from starter - over

It would be hard to guess but a simple diagnostic would be to use a 12v test light and see if the starter solenoid recieves a 12 v signal while turning the key. If it lights, the starter should turn over. This also gives you the oportunity to check and verify all electrical connections at the starter including the large orange fusible link wire at the large battery terminal.

It sounds like the small tickler wires may be reversed to the Solenoid.

If no success, call Itasca and ask if there were any changes for this Solenoid. There are several types of Solenoid with the grounding being the major internal difference. Most likely your wires are switched.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8Solenoid clicks but does not turn over the starter. Can I just change the solenoid or do I have to do the whole starter. Where is the solenoid, on the starter or elsewhere?

Firstly, many vehicles are fitted with a starter relay and that might be what you hear clicking.

The starter motor is a coaxial pre-engaged type (the commonest type in use these days) so the solenoid is in assembly with the starter motor.
The solenoid pulls the starter gear into mesh with the flywheel teeth and then switches on the power to it.

The solenoid has two windings with a common supply that when energised act as a magnet. One high current winding is grounded through the windings of the starter motor and it's function is to move the starter gear consuming enough current to cause the motor to turn slowly as it does so and then switch on the full current to the starter.
The second winding is internally grounded and is only powerful enough to hold the starter in engagement.

When the starter (not the relay if fitted) just clicks, even when the solenoid is energised manually, assuming the battery, leads and connections are ok, it usually means the motor brush gear is defective. Few people today repair starter motors (a great shame) so replacement is the commonest option.

2004 scion xa not starting hear clicking noise. is it possible the battery or cold it be the alternator or starter?

The clicking will be the starter solenoid not getting enough juice. Check the battery charge, especially the connections, which may need to be cleaned. Use Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) in a little water to clean the connections, which will sizzle a bit. Wipe dry and clean.

My 2004 Accent wont start. It started fine Tuesday, Wednesday morning it would not start for nothing. I tried it Thursday afternoon and it started fine. This is the second time it has done this.

Does the motor crank (starter engaged and turning the motor)? If it does not crank, do you hear the solenoid clicking (engaging the starter gear into the flywheel teeth)?

Starter clicks but will not turn engine over on 2004 Dodge Durango. New starter and battery.

Hi Mark
Sounds like you are doing all the right things.
We used to Load Test a Starter Motor by putting it in a Large Vice and connecting a known good battery with solid fat jumper leads.
When the solenoid throws the cog forward to engage we would use a 2 by 4 block of wood levered against the cog to try and stop the starter from spinning. The wood burns up under load but it quickly proves the Starter is functioning under load. Without using the engine.
Also you could try removing the spark plugs on the engine to allow the compression to escape. Make sure NO sparks around to ignite any fuel vapor.
The engine should spin over easily like this and you can hear & see if anything is binding up.
Hope this Helps!
Good luck!

Will not start, battery is new, it just clicks and nothing. turn it off, try again and nothing, try again and it starts

Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor.

Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

2004 Nissan Altima won't start hear clicking sound with a jump start it's start to run again. few day after same problem when turn off the key stuck?

Hi, I would surmise by your description that you have an intermittent fault with the solenoid on the starter motor. The clicking sound is the solenoid trying to engage when power is applied to it.

The cheapest solution is usually to fit a re-built str mtr, or if you have the services, have your own unit rebuilt.

Please don't just replace the solenoid, it's a false economy, no matter how well intentioned!

Let me know the outcome.

Good luck.

I turn the key and sometimes it will just click and not turn over. I try this 2 or 3 times and then the starter engages and the vehicle starts.

Either the solenoid or the starter motor itself. You need either a test light or a voltmeter to check for power at the starter side large terminal of the solenoid when it just clicks. If you get voltage or light every time it clicks, the starter motor is defective. If you don't get voltage or light when it just clicks, the solenoid is defective.

Car wont start. is not the battery.

The clicking you hear is the starter solenoid trying to fire the starter. Generally an indication of loss of full power to the starter itself.
It can in fact be a bad wire to the starter, weak battery, dirty battery connections, etc. When in doubt try the horn. If it goes full blast look beyond the battery. Start at your battery terminals and clean them, checking the wires there as well for creeping corrosion. Then work your way to the starter connections checking for corrosion and dirt.
If all else checks out the issue is likely in the starter solenoid, internal connections. These wear with age and are replaceable on most Japanese vehicles.

Chrysler 2004 starter doesn,t turn ,battery has 12.7 volts lights and horn works good but starter doesn't even click

My 2004 Sebring did just that. it was a fusible link. a tiny square box in there with the fuses. they are a cube that plugs in about 3/8" of an inch square. Find the bad one replace it and the starter starts working again.

Engine will not start. Single click heard when

This problem relates to the solenoid and that should have been replaced with the starter. If it is a rebuilt starter the solenoid may have been faulty on it. Take it back.
