Hello. it seems that the clutch is starting to wear significantly. the best you can do is make sure that there is freeplay left in the clutch lever. but if no more can be had then it is obvious that the clutch plates need to be inspected, for they are most likely worn and/or damaged beyond service limit. this will show more likely in the higher gears.
if the clutch fibers have a burnt smell to them, or appear black in color. or even have a charcoal kind of texture. they are most likely bad. the way you described the way it slipped i would be surprised if they are good at all. i would break the new plates in, in a petrol based oil instead of synthetic. let the new plates soak in the oil a good hour or better before installing them as well. running synthetic is ok. but a good broken in bike is when it is ideal. about 10k miles or better.

Thanks bennito, no more freeplay left on the lever, I took the clutch apart, is there a way i can measure/inspect the plates to know if they are worn? is there any internal adjustment that can be done? I have about 20,000 miles on my bike and I have been using synthetic oil, do you think that may affect?
