Are you speaking of one front brake or two? Rear brakes?
If it the front brake locks immediately, then look at the brake hose. It should pull away from the bad caliper when applying the brakes. If you have to drive a bit, then you are likely having a caliper problem. After driving a while, the bad brake should heat that wheel noticebly. Replacement calipers are rebuilt and can be defective.
If both front brakes are sticking, that you probably have a proportioning valve problem. Unusual, but not impossible.

SOURCE: 95 G20 Chevy van: ABS light stays on, pulls right when braking

You actually have two separate problems. The brake pull to the right is indicating the left side brake is not working properly. You will want to remove the left front wheel, collapse the caliper piston and make sure the caliper is floating freely on its mounts.
With the piston collapsed you should be able to slide the caliper inboard and outboard of the rotor. If not, you will want to remove the attachment pins, clean and lubricate the pins. If they are grooved or worn you will have to replace them.
The second issue of the ABS light is indicating the system has detected an electrical sensing or control problem. Take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto and ask them to scan the vehicle for trouble codes. They will scan it for you at no charge.
Chances are you will find a wheel speed sensor problem at one of the wheels.
Write the codes down and respond back, we can start diagnosing the problem,
Good luck, let me know.

SOURCE: 1980 Chevy Truck Brake Locked Up

There are times when the rubber brake lines start to come apart internally and act like a one way valve. they let the fluid in, but will not let it out.

Try this: The the brakes are locked up release the bleeder on the caliper. if pressure come out there, lock up again, and release the hose where it goes into the metal line. This may be hard because of rust, but you will probably have to replace the line anyway.

You may have a bad Master, but odds are it is the rubber lines. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2003 chevy malibu abs light

Hi.

If the ABS light comes on, then there is definitively a problem that must be corrected. The ABS light turns on for a number of reasons. If the problem started after replacing brake pads and sensors it is usually because of sensor wiring. When abs light is on it means that diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the car computer modules (in both ECM that is the main computer, and also in ABS control module).
If you have done the brake service recently, get back to the garage that did the job and ask them doing a code scanning. Possibly go there while the ABS light is on. The codes will reset after turning on the ignition a number of times if the problem is not there anymore. Wiring problems often manifest themselves only occasionally in consequence of vibration. That is likely your case.

Note: when you go to the dealer for the code scanning mention that the problem started after the repair or you will be charged the standard fee for code scanning (usually half hour labor). Mention that the ABS module may need scanning for codes and go there when ABS light is on. They will use a Tech 2 scanner to pull out ABS codes. A regular OBDII scanner will only retrieve codes from main computer.

Regards.

2002 kia reo keeps needing new brakes

I am assuming you are talking about the front brakes. If that is the case, its possible that one or both of your calipers are seizing thus holding the pads against the rotor. The other possibilities of locking up, are: bent or worn caliper sliders (bolts, in most cases) or believe it or not, front brake hoses. Have a qualified brake shop check these items.

Why does my brake light and the a b s light comes on when this vehicle has brand new calipers and pads on

Because the problem is not with pads and/or calipers. If the lights come on only when you brake, you may have a light bulb out. If they come on when you start the car and they stay on, you have a problem with your ABS system (anti-lock braking system). The systems self-check when you start the car, so the light should come on and then go out. If it comes on and stays on, the ABS system has failed. You need to have the vehicle serviced to repair the ABS system.

What can i use to keep my breaks from sticking? i put on new break pads and they are still sticking.please help me.

your brake caliper or calipers, may be sticking.when you drive it at night, for say 10 miles, then look at the fronf wheels,do you see a fire red glow behind the wheel on the brake caliper.? easy way to tell.jack the car up with the emergency brake on. pump the brakes with engine running, with the transmission in neutral? can you spin the tires by hand? if not, then you have a sticking brake caliper, which will burn the brakes up fast.eventually, the brake caliper will "lock" and then you will not be able to move the car in any gear.if you suspect bad brake caliper, replace both front brake rotors and calipers with new brake pads. easy way to eliminate the brake problems.if you replace the brake calipers and pads only.the rotors may still be warped due to all the heat that occured with the bad brake calipers. you will have a bad steering wheel vibration when braking otherwise. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!

Hello uncleel03,

There 3 item to look at:

1. Are the caliper mounting slide pins free and lubricated?
If not, the pins and bracket s need to be cleaned and lubricated.

2. Was a new hardware kit installed on a clean caliper mounting bracket and do the brake pad move freely in the bracket?
If not, the bracket needs to be cleaned and all rust removed from where the hardware kits attaches to the bracket.

3. Did the pistons in the calipers compress easily?
If not the caliper may need to be replaced. I say "may" because a bad brake hose can cause resistance when compressing the caliper so you will need to isolate the cause of the resistance.

Testing:

Safely lift and support the vehicle.

Have an assistant press and hold the brake peddle while you try to turn the wheel; as you are trying to turn the wheel have the assistant release the brake peddle, the brake should release immediately and the wheel should turn freely if not there is a problem with ether the caliper or brake hose.

To determine where the fault is you will need to remove the tire and have your assistant apply and release the brake. If the brake remains engaged open the bleeder if the brake releases the brake hose is the problem and needs to be replaced, if not the caliper needs to be replaced.

Repeat this procedure on the other side to determine it's integrity.

Of course you will need to bleed the brakes after these tests and after the new parts are installed before you can drive the vehicle.

I hope this help.

Passenger side front brakes locking up

There are a number of problems that can cause that. It could be a bad caliper which is either hanging up or not returning correctly. It could be a bad proportioning valve or ABS motor. It doesn't have to be the passenger caliper that is bad. If the driver side isn't moving then all the brake pressure will go into the passenger side. Check your pads for excessive wear also. Metal on metal contact will cause that or a heat cracked pad could be causing uneven pressure. Check your rotors for glazing as well. If the pads don't grab until high pressure is applied then the brake could lock up. Pads rotors and calipers should cost less than two hundred dollars and if you replace all of them then you shouldn't have to worry about them for another twenty thousand miles or so. Take out the ABS fuse and drive it first and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then it's not the ABS motor. To me, it sounds like a caliper hanging up. Good luck.
