SOURCE: front pipe gets red hot as soon as the bike stars up

Muffler or baffle obstructed or something in the exhaust is stopping the flow.dom not run this engine it will burn-up.You may be using too high an octane fuel also.

SOURCE: what coud be making my pipe got red hot

Hi, the pipe getting red at the header is caused by the fuel mixture being to lean or the ignition timing being too retarded. Check the induction side of the engine for air leaks and the carburettor for blockages etc. Check the ignition timing.
Hope that helps Matt...

SOURCE: What tempature should my rmz 450 run at? Also why

The cooling system on the RM-Z450 was designed for motocross and only works efficiently with air flowing through the radiator. You should not sit at idle for more than a minute or two if at all possible. The extreme high output of this engine causes extremely high exhaust output temperature. The pipe temps can reach 600-800 degrees F plus all the way back to the silencer. This is normal on all modern racing 4-strokes. There are a lot of aftermarket products available that help increase the cooling system efficiency. There are also several products that help insulate critical areas from engine and exhaust heat including shields for fuel tanks/lines, the carb/throttle body, rear shock, and plastic body work.

Hi, Shaun on a 2 stroke no on a 4 stroke yes and the usual suspects are:
1. Retarded ignition timing.
2. Retarded cam timing.
3. Bent or burnt exhaust valve.
4. Massive air leak.
5. Intake manifold cracked or damaged.
6. Intake manifold seals have failed.
7. Wrong heat range spark plug.
8. Fuel delivery system running too lean.

My 2005 450 RMZ exhaust pipe glows red at idle. What size jets do I need at 1000' elevation?

Hi, Mark your motorcycle is a high-performance dirt bike designed to run flat out that being said if you are strolling down some scenic trail at a slow speed or letting the bike idle for a few minutes your header pipe will turn cherry red, why you ask? It is not a street bike, it is designed for competition and weight is a major factor all necessary components are of the smallest and lightest design necessary to maintain performance under extreme conditions ie. small radiator and inside frame oil reservoir that doesn't get cooled, the majority of your riding needs to be at high speed. I have 2006 TTR-250 with nomods and only 200 miles on it. Like another owner, I have problems running except on choke and have seen the pipe glowing red at idle. The bike has always been hard starting. ...

Well the glowing red header pipe and the fact that its hard to start is a pretty good sighn that your VALVES need adjusted.on a four stroke bike you have to adjust the valves about every 6 months to a year( and more often if you run it at high RPMs alot) i have both 2-strokes and 4-strokes bikes and have had this same problem with my 4-strokes(honda&yamaha) if you get a manuel and are somewhat mechanicaly inclined you can adjust them your self but if your not, i would take it in and have it done because if not done properly its easy to bend or break a valve( and i think yours has 4 valves.2-intake and 2-exhaust) And head work is not cheep!!!! but a adjustment on the valves is!!!!! good luck....

My crf250 wouldnt start so put new shims in so correct spec now strugling to kick start and when it does front header pipe glows red any idea?

Possible causes are:
Insufficient valve tappet clearance. Re-check the tappet clearance on each valve. You can confirm this by checking the compression. Proper compression for your engine is 175~190 psi. Much lower than that indicates insufficient tappet clearance - or internal engine wear.
Fuel mixture too lean. This can easily be caused by clogged carburetor jets, from sitting. It only takes a few months on non-use for the carb to become plugged with fuel varnish. Also make certain there are no air leaks between the carburetof and engine. If you are running an aftermarket air filter, rejetting to correct a lean mixture is required.
Whatever you do - do not operate the engine in this condition or you risk damage to the cylinder head and valves.

I need help with carb adjustments.because when im ride around it runs ok and then it dies out of no where or when i stop my right side of my header glows red

Stalling, won't idle, and glowing header pipes are all symptoms of two possible problems: insufficient valve tappet clearance (adjust the valves), and/or plugged up carburetor from sitting (disassemble the carb and clean it).
Adjust the valves, first - and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

Dripping coolant and pipe glowing red

The header pipe will glow red when you run it on choke, during warm up. This is normal while sitting. You shouldn't see that one you start riding it though.
The coolant drip could be just a dirty or failing radiator cap. My bike will push a little out if I completely top it off full. Hope this helps.
