It is very hard to help you when you give no details. But if it doesn't do anything when you try to start it you probably need to charge battery or get new one. If it is trying to start and doesn't sound weak then you need to have someone look at it. It doesn't sound like you would want to do anything yourself but if its not the battery, it doesn't sound good. Good luck
Don't know if it is water cooled or not, but it sounds like you may have a problem with oil or water getting into the combustion chamber and fouling the spark plugs. Kicking doesn't produce the amount of rpm that you need to fire up a weakly firing plug. I'd check the plugs condition first and replace if needed, and then figure out why its smoking.
if the engine doesn't spin look at the starter if it has spark and a new carb is there power to the solenoid on the bottom of the carb does it fire on carb cleaner?
The 1st thing i need to do is clarify what you mean by "won't trun over" do you mean the starter motor spins the engine and it will not fire up or that the starter doesn't trun the engine over? If the starter doesn't turn the engine over do you hear a clicking coming from the starter solenoid when this happens? If so replace the starter solenoid the heavy electrical contacts are burned.
If the engine turns over (spins) when you turn the key , your starter is working, if the car doesn't start (run) you will need to check for spark and fuel pressure.
Make sure that you have fire and fuel. You may want to spray some ether into the air intake. If it doesn't want to start and it has fire, you may want to consider the timing chain.
Car doesn't turn over, but ignition turns on? Doesn't happen all the time,it just happens.. If I let it sit for a while it all of sudden turns over and starts. Happened twice this year..
