I have replaced 3 disc brake calipers on my 2001 pt cruiser. after bleeding all 4 brakes 3 times, I started the car and brake pedal goes to floor. is my brake booster shot?

Michael:

You must start bleeding the brakes at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), then the next farthest from the master cylinder, then the next, then the closest. If your master cylinder is at the left front of the car, start with the right rear, then the left rear, then the right front, then the left front. If you don't bleed the brakes in the correct order, you are just shifting the air in the lines from one line to another. Make sure that you close the bleeder before letting the brake pedal up, and the engine should not be running when you bleed the brakes... Make sure that the emergency brake is off. Make sure that the master cylinder does not run out of brake fluid at any time that you are bleeding the brakes.

I have a ford escort xr3i 1988 i have replaced the brake master cylinder, bleed the brakes but still have no brakes what could be wrong?

Your car has a diagonally split brake system. Each side of this system must be bled as an individual system, and there is a correct bleeding sequence to be followed. First bleed the right rear brake, second, bleed the left front brake, then follow with the left rear brake and lastly, bleed the right front brake. Here's a link on a repair guide for bleeding your brakes. After putting on new calipers on both sides of my dodge ram 2005 1500 and bled brakes I have no brakes. What is the problem they worked fine until I did the caliper and brake

Did you bleed rear brakes also? Should do all 4 whenever bleeding brakes starting w/ right rear, left rear, right front then left front. Sounds like air in lines.

1999 Chevy Tahoe- Soft Brake Pedal

Try having the dealer flush and bleed your system. It is very hard to bleed ABS systems yourself and have safe brakes that still work afterward. Bleeding non-ABS brakes yourself is easy not the same for ABS brakes. Valving, sensors and what-not require a tech and the correct equipment in my opinion. You do it wrong and you could ruin your ABS system. Do that and see if they firm up. I replaced my brake shoes/pads at the same time all new everything in back, drums/springs everything and new rotors up front. then I had the chevy dealer flush, refill and bleed system. Stiffer pedal and brakes work better. Keep in mind the brakes on 99 Tahoes are inaedequate, require new rotors often, heat up and fade/glaze pads regularly. I replace my pads long before they wear down because they glaze up and start fading early. I'll rough em up once maybe, next time, new ones. Every two brake jobs, new rotors for me. Just how it is. They will stiffen a bit and work better but they will never be awesome brakes. Just how it is on 99 and earlier Tahoes. Hope it helps. Very important to bleed correctly though. I'll bleed my 83 Toyota 4x4 myself but not the Tahoe.

What is the correct procedure in bleeding the brake system on a 1999 Tahoe? Is there a special procedure for the ABS portion?

All brake syastems are the same whether single, cross or dual, start with filling the res. start with the cylinder furtherest away from res and work towards the nearest, so if the res in on the front left in the engine bay, start rear right, rear left, front right, and finaly front left, keep an eye on the res level at all times anmd never release pedal pressure untill the bleed nipple is tight, I use a one way bleed tube and a jar, makes it easy one man job as air can't get back in, so open, pump 3 or 5 times and tighten.

Bleeding brakes

You need to make sure you have an assistant. The assistant keep adding fluid and pumping the brakes while you operate the bleeder screws.

The procedure--LF,RF,LR,RR (left front, right front, etc). You are moving from the shortest brake line closest to the master cylinder to the longest brake line furthest from the master cylinder. Use an aquarium air hose (12 inch length), and a clear jar to catch the brake fluid. When no more bubbles escape through the hose, the caliper or cylinder is properly bled.

If the level drops below the LOW mark, air may reenter the system. Keep the reservoir full by checking after each bleed!

Brake line leak

start from the farthest, right rear, left rear, right front, then left front, take some time in bleeding your left front since it has more air induced during line replacement. good luck!
