Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. A severely drained battery.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

SOURCE: when I hold the throttle

You don't say the age or type of bike but it's possible that your carbs are slightly out of balance with more fuel getting to one than the other.

Why does my Vintage Cub Cadet 125, Kohler 12HP engine pop/backfire and die when given any throttle?

Carburetor needs adjusted. May need rebuilt or just cleaned. Could be one of the jets is plugged.

Backfiring and trouble starting

If you change the exhaust pipes, you have to sync the carbs (if you cant sync them, you have to change the carb jets), usually it is backfiring because the carbs are not in balance.

hi, first thing to do is identify if all the exhausts are hot when the engine has been running for a minit or two, probably the backfireing you are hearing is at least one of the spark plugs has become contaminated with fuel and as a result the engine is not running properly on that cylinder, the backfire will be the exsess fuel igniteing as the plug becomes warm and then fires, it may also be that the fuel has become contaminated, causing a varnishing effect within the float chamber, thus blocking or restricting the fuel flow through the main jet, the machine would run on primary jet and of course the choke jet, but would fail to respond on throttle opening through the main jet, try drain old fuel from float bowls, hope this helps welcome to the motorcycling world, the more you learn about the machine you ride, the more you will enjoy rideing it, paul edwards

Backfiring and constant miss firing, engine not running smoothly during idling and loud miss firing sound at exhaust at full throttle opening.

You have a timing problem. Check for loose/broken belts. also see if the distributer cap is worn out or cracked. Replace it if it looks worn out. Change spark plugs....
Sounds like a typical ignition problem. If your handy, you can do this all yourself.
Change plugs wires and distruber cap.

I have a yamaha wolverine 2003 when you push the throttle it pops and back fires and wont idel. if you know what wrone with it please let me know thanks.

Backfire is a sign of too much air,not enough gas. That's about all I can say from what you described.Check the fuel lines, filter, etc. Also, try not to drive it like that.Backfire causes hotter than normal temperatures in the combustion chamber and I have seen it blow a hole right through the piston a few times. If you need more help, just comment on this post and I get an auto message.I'll see what I can do. Good luck and ride on! Greg

Hey i have several solutions for you.
The first is have you checked valvue clearence lately, because if the valvue clearence is either to high or to low then it could cause it to back fire. The next solution is repacking your silencer. The next solution is there is two main gaskets in most dirtbikes, one, which is located where the pipe mets the motor. Also the other gasket it where the mid pipe meets the head pipe. The bike fire is usually being caused by extra air. By the way checkin valvue clearence is extremley easy it may sound hard but I do after every ride.
