Question about Motorcycles
I have a cpi gtr with no headlights or rev. The weird thing is, I have to unplug the batterie to put the dash on off. All the light on the dash remain lit even whitout the key. Befor that probleme the fuse blew, i replaced the fuse. Now the bike starts fine, the flasher works fine the horn works fine again but the head lights and the rev meter dont work. Any suggetions?

SOURCE: electrical trouble
If all the fuses turn out good especially the main fuse then you might want to check your starter solenoid. Try jumping the two leads on the solenoid if the bike starts then most likely the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't start then it could be two other things. 1- your Ignitions might be shoot. tell tail signs. Bike cutting out during the ride and bike loses power when you hit the starter button but power returns when you turn the key off then back on. 2- The Rectifier might be gone. The rectifier will cause many different problem that might have you chasing carb problems, to the bike won't start at all with no cranking

Check the fuses too and basically all the wiring, there could be somewhere a loose connection also check the wires at the solenoid switch.

Look for a bad ground connection inside the headlight shell (or possibly elsewhere). The other thing that all of the items you mention that are working intermittently have in common is the ignition switch. With the switch 'on', check for battery voltage at the fuses for the headlight, turn signals, horn, etc. No voltage at the fuses likely means a bad ignition switch.

Testimonial: "quick response to my posted problem. don't know yet if that's the problem, but i've got a good place to start looking. thanks for the help."
ok could be a couple things here. Im having a memory issue at the moment so first Im gonna tell ya to check the light on your front fender if it has one?
If so and that light is out as well then run your fingers up the inside of the front fender on the right side of the tire. Have the wires from the fender tip light been rubbing on the tire and now are bare and shorted out?
Second at least if the fender tip light wires are ok or you dont have a fender tip light would be to simply click your hi/low beam light switch. Do you have a high beam and just not a low beam? If so its the bulb in the headlight because its blown out on the low beam side. Replace the headlight and then youll have your passing lamps and your fog lamps back as well since those circuits all get there power from the low beam circuit of the headlight. Good luck and let me know what you find.
