An easy way to remove and replace primary cover starter bushing?

Hi, Ricky, they do make a special tool for this procedure but if you don't have one there is an unorthodox method.
1. Use a Dremel Tool or Die Grinder with a small ball end bit and carefully cut a section out of the bushing then finish collapsing inward by driving an ice pick in between the bushing and the primary cover starter bushing boss.

How do i replace a starter on a 2005 harley 1200 sportster

Disconnect the battery and then the wires on the charger. Drain the transmission (left cover). After that, you can remove the shift lever connection and the clutch cover. Disconnect the clutch cable from the clutch assembly. Now you can remove your complete primary cover. After all that you will want to remove the two screws that hold the starter to the engine. Then simply put everything back in the reverser order using all new gaskets and seals and fill the transmission back up w/the proper amount and weight of oil.

How do I replace stator

To remove the starter from your Big Twin, first disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the oil from the primary. Remove the outer primary cover and take the small bolt out of the starter jackshaft. You don't necessarily have to remove the starter gear and the jackshaft but you may be able to work it out without moving the clutch assembly out. If you want to move the clutch assembly out, take the snap ring out of the clutch adjuster screw plate in the front of the assembly. Inside the hole is the mainshaft nut. It has LEFT-HANDED THREADS. You can get the nut off it you have an air wrench or a primary locking bar to keep the engine from turning while trying to get the nut off. The nut torques to 60-80 foot pounds of torque. Once you get the nut off, you can slide the clutch assembly outwards enough to get the starter gear off.
Go to the other side of the bike and take part or all of the exhaust system off to allow you to get the starter out. In the case of a Softail, remove the top bolts and the rubber supports that hold the oil tank in. You do not have to disconnect any of the hoses. All you need to do it to raise the tank just a bit to get to bolts that hold the starter on and to get it out. Take the nut off that that connects the battery cable to the starter. Unplug the small single wire from the back of the starter. The nut is a 14mm nut. Take the two large socket head bolts out that holds the starter on and remove the starter. There is a coupling that connects the starter to the jackshaft. Mark the coupling which way it goes or remember that the counter bored end goes toward the jackshaft.
If you want an exploded view of the starter and jackshaft, visit
http://www.bikebandit.com and look up your bike or one close as the starters are the same.

Putting my farrin and headlight back on my 2008 ultra classic. need a diagram for headlight assembly. i have a peice of wire that i dont know what to do with

If it's shaped like a "W", it goes in the chrome headlight ring to hold the light in. You might try going to http://www.bikebandit.com . Look up your year model bike or one close to it and they may have an exploded view of the light assembly. I don't know if it'll tell you what you need to know.

Good Luck

How to remove starter on a 2003 softail harley davidson

It's a lot of work.
First, disconnect and remove the battery. Don't want to lose a finger.
Drain the primary and remove the outer primary cover.
Remove the small bolt that holds the jackshaft onto the starter and remove it if you can. If it won't come out, you'll have to take the nut off the clutch assembly and slide it out just far enough to get the jackshaft out. To get to the nut, remove the clutch rod adjuster in the center of the clutch assembly by removing the snap ring. Loosen the nut, left handed threads. When retorquing 60-80 foot pounds, left handed. There is a coupling that connects the jackshaft to the starter, mark which way it comes out. Tapered end towards starter.
Remove the exhaust system if needed.
Remove all bolts holding the oil tank and lift it up as high as possible.
Disconnect the large battery cable and the small wire at the top of the starter.
Remove the two large bolts that hold the starter onto the inner primary cover.
Work starter out.

Assy of starter clutch on 2003 Harley Davidson

The starter on a late model Harley is a typical Nippondenso gear reduction type starter. They are all basically the same except for size.
To replace the starter clutch inside the starter assembly requires disassembly of the starter assembly.

I you will contact me directly, I will scan the procedure and drawings out of a service manual for you.
