The gem is behind the dash in the center, behind the radio. It controls whipers, anti theft, 4x4, cargo lamp, insterment cluster, plus a few other things. Hope this helps.

on the alternator did you put the little washers where the regulator bolts on back of the alt they must be tight and also the ground cable from the battery to the alt bracket must be tight and grounded sounds like a loose connection
the washers go between the alternator and wires coming out of the harness and the alt also it probalbly goes dead occasionally when you crank it up
sounds like your missing a ground somewhere.

Just because a computer is re-programmed does not mean it does not have an internal fault. The question really is who diagnosed this in the beginning. Most likely you have a issue that is not related to the computer. The exact symptoms need to be stated before anyone ever touched the vehicle. Now that you have messed with things its going to take alot more time to go backwards and figure out the new problem before we can eved address the old one. You will need a scanner to read data to see what information is not reaching the PCM. This may of been a fuel delivery issue in the beginning or an idle air control valve issue. No way to tell without test equipment. Not even the best mechanic can diagnose accurately without hand on. Even so they make mistakes and recommend wrongs parts so with this in mind you need to be aware that all we can do here is suggest parts which can get pretty expensive in the long run.
SOURCE: panel metering not working like fuel gauge,
Seems like a dodgy earth behind dash panel. Hope this helps..
Check the fuel. Don't rely on your gauge, and if in doubt add some fuel just to make sure there is enough to start the car. Try to start the car and if it still doesn't start you know that fuel isn't the problem.
Make sure your car is in Park and the emergency brake is set.
Look closely at your dash board when you attempt to start the car. If your lighted panels don't come on or are very dim then it is likely that you are dealing with a dead battery. Either use a battery tester or simply hook the battery up to a charger or use jumper cables to hook up to another car battery in order to charge the battery enough to start the car. After you charge the battery if your car still won't start you may be dealing with a bad starter.
Call a mechanic to find out if there are any other possibilities before you purchase and replace the starter.
