Backfires on acceleration

I have a 2003 yamaha vstar 1100cc. I just had the carb rebuilt. It idles good but when accelerating it backfires. Does this mean it needs new plugs or what?

SOURCE: have problems starting yamaha xvs 1100 dragstar

Hi there fellow XVS dragstar owner!

I had the same problem before. It is usually caused by the wrong jets installed. have it Replaced with the standard jets that came with it... this will solve the problem on acceleration. Make sure the fuel and air mixture knob is set to 2.5 turns-out from full close. clean the spark plugs.. better, replace it with a new one to ensure clean burning of fuel. also, use unleaded gas. this burns better.

hope this helps

SOURCE: engine idles fine, stalls soon as its given gas

Hi there!

Open up the carb and clean the jets with pressurized air. I also suspect water on the carburetor reservoir, before opening the carb, drain it first then run. Also, make sure the plugs are clean. Pull on the choke when twisting the accelerator, if it accelerates well, then warm the beast at normal temperature first before twisting the throttle hard again.

hope this helps-

Recheck the float level, reblow the jets both primary and main.
Replace the spark plug and reset the air-mixture screw....2 and half turns to 3 outwards ..
after tightening it to the end take care not to over tighten ....to avoid damaging the tip of the screw.
Hope this helps!

Yamaha Grizzly 600 backfires and doesn't want to idle

Did you line up the stator plate line with the notch on the cases? Sounds like your ignition timing is set a bit retarded. I would pull the side cover off and check the timing marks.

Backfires on down shifts and when reving up. Mainly when the rpms are going down

Your idle mixture is too lean. You can adjust this by locating the mixture screw on the carb(carbs) and turning it counter-clockwise an 1/8th turn at a time. This will not affect running above 1/4 throttle, but will richen your idle circuit and the lean popping on deceleration. If you have misses above 1/4 throttle when accelerating, tou likely have trash in your jets and the carb will need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

I have a 2007 Midnight Venture. It idles extremely rough (seems to be on 2 cylinders)spits and backfires even when warm except when the choke is on. Low end torgue seems to be missing. It also backfires...

Your primary jets in the carbs are clogged. (FYI- each carb has three metering jets, a primary, the needle or butterfly and the main jet. Each jet has an RPM area where it controls.) Simply blowing them out will not fix this problem. The carbs need removed and properly cleaned, the jets need to be probed and cleared then a new fuel filter installed to prevent it all from happening again. best wishes.

Bike backfires,dies,restarts runs fine

your carbs are dirty. and probably need to be balanced also... bring the bike bto a garage and have them cleaned by a profesional.... also after market pipes don't give your bike the proper back pressure .. that can mess up your carbs timing
