Question about 1985 Honda XL 125 R

1 Answer

I bought an old 1982 honda XL 125s and it has been starting first kick every time..

There was alot of excess wiring balled up and pushed up behind an after market filter housing..there are no lights, no battery, and no switches at all. i parked it down at my barn one night and some kids vandalized our barn and it looked like they reached up and grabbed the whole wiring set right under the seat on the left side and yanked them all down.. most o them were on the ground i guess, but all the wires going into the motor and suck are fine and intact.. I have all kinds of diagrams for battery and non xl's. but the ones that say their for the 82 xl 125s just look wrong to me. even with all the extra wires the spark plug is on the right side and nothing traces back the right way.. can anyone point me in the right direction since i'm sure this bike wasnt set up like OEM.. i know for a fact it had spark after they pulled the wires but a so called mechanic tried fixing it and now i have no spark.. any ideas?

Hi, Jeff nice novella and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting, leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

SOURCE: 1974 honda cb550 will not run?

• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?

• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.

82 honda v45 magna ignition problems

Hi, Anonymous what you need is a wiring diagram that you can find in the back of your service manual if you can not find the first and best tool you ever bought for your bike, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

I've just bought a Honda CB250n 1982 and whilst

Look at the battery. One wire (black) will go to ground and be bolted to the frame. On the other (red) there will be an in line fuse in a plastic tube which should clip open. Check that.

I have a 1975 Honda GL1000 standard. I replaced the points and adjusted them. When I went to start it w/the push button starter it just made a buzzing sound. I then was able to kick start it and it ran...

I own three GL1000 cycles. After fussing with the points all three now have Dyna electronic ignitions. The difference is worth the price around $200. But to your problem. When replacing points Honda sells a plate assembly with everything on it (saves time plus you get all new screws and wires to the condenser). The condensers have always been a problem with all Honda point systems. Did you install a new condenser ? Also when installing puts it is easy to ground them out. You may have to go through the whole process again to get your spark back. I believe the problem you are having is with your starter solenoid . You need a new solenoid. But for now, take off your left side cover and jump the solenoid with a piece of wire , a screw driver , jumper cable clamp, etc. You may also want to solder in a push fuse to replace the old tube fuse which at this age can be a source of aggravation when you have to wiggle the wires to get the bike to power up.

HOW TO REWIND A STATOR THAT WILL LAST FOR AT LEAST

If you are rewinding multiple stators I would expect some other source of the problem like a short somewhere. An XR 200 stator may work as the motors are similar. I would trust a used Honda stator more than any rewound one, usually they are completely trouble free and will last longer than the rest of the motor

I need to find where the fuse box for 1982 ford mustang is located

Not sure, but look on the drivers side up under the dash or on the firewall down by where your feet would be if in the drivers seat. The other choices would be in the kick panels down by your feet behind a small plastic push in panel.

Honda xl 100 1982 wiring problem

i ould start by checking the main engine ground, its a real possibility for your problem and always a good idea, if that does not solve it then i would clean the contacts in the horn button and turn signal control. be careful when opening this as the parts are small and can easily fall out of place

Kick starter

new spring and little ball. My question is were does the little ball and spring go? I tried to get it down where the bolt threads in but no dice. Any help would be great. That's the detent for a fully closed (folded) kick start lever. Look in the splined base which you ordered (female) which fits on the kick lever shaft (which is also splinedbut male) there is the hole where the actual kick start lever fits. This in the same plane as the little indent in the lever it self. Put in the spring, Then the ball on top, press the ball down with a small screwdriver or whatever from one end as sliding the lever in from the other. Once the lever end has started over the ball just push in all the way and turn to engage the lever a couple of times to make sure the detent works. Then slide the unit on as you would any kick start lever. I did this in the field yesterday, so its not difficult. I used an allen wrench to push the ball down. Took maybe a minute. Hope I did not over explain, its pretty obvious if you look at it enough. Good luck.,,,
