Head Gasket 1985 Yamaha Maxim X 700

I'm getting very low compression in my 2 and 3 cylinder. Chances are good that my gasket blew out. Can you tell me how I would repair this?

SOURCE: I cant seem to find a Head gasket for my yamaha

$33.12 plus shipping. Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx I checked and Babbits has them in stock.
A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

SOURCE: 1982 XJ 650 maxim cylinder 2 & 4 won't run

Are you saying that 2 & 4 got gas with external tank but not with gas tank? If so something else has happened ,if gas is getting to the carb it cannot by-pass 2 to get to 1. Take the tank back off ,connect to external, again. See what happens.

Water in oil

Water in the oil is most likely a head gasket leak-blown head gasket. You will have to pull the cylinder head off and replace the head gasket. If it's a V6 or V8 engine, a compression test will tell you which bank of the engine has the head gasket problem. One cylinder or two cylinders next to each other will have low compression.

Low compression in 2 cylinders

Are the two with low compression next to each other? If so that would indicate a blown head gasket. Cylinders that are not next to each other could be worn rings or bad valves.

My 93 excel seems to be leaking pressure between cld 1&2 there is almost no pressure in these 2 wheras 3&4 has 175 psi in each which seems high. no external leaks, no water loss. only had car for...

The 175psi is not high for cylinder compression (I believe I interpreted it correctly). Two adjacent cylinders with low compression almost always means the head gasket has blown the fire ring between the cylinders. Pull the head, have it checked and or milled. New head gasket set, timing belt, oil change and get her going.

1985 750 maxim, one plug wire fowls out plug

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, change the plugs and observed if fowling is still on the same cylinder.

If yes, then items to checks:
  • compression;
  • sparkplug wire & cap for that particular plug;
  • carb half for that cylinder.
Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
