Lost my tail light and running lights on 1984 Honda Magna 500

I replaced all my turn signals with new ones. Everything worked fine until I inadvertently touched a live wire to a ground and popped the fuse. I replaced the fuse and now have lost my tail light and front running lights. Brake light works fine as does the turn signals. I checked all the bulbs and fuses. Everything looked ok. Anyone know what to look for now? Could I have damaged something when the live wire touched a ground?

SOURCE: No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores

SOURCE: Tail lights don't work on 1998 Chevy Silverado.

check the wiring from the tailights back to the fuse panel, it sounds like an open connection. if i recall correctly check under the dash on the drivers side near the fuse panel for a bunch of wires in a bundle and look carefully for a wire or two that are cut/shorted/or seperated, you can also check under the drivers side kick panel by the hood release.

1986 Honda VT 500 C Shadow tail light not working

Hi, Anonymous tail light issues are relatively easy to diagnose and repair always check the tail light fuse first and make sure you have power on both sides of the fuse holder and the usual suspects are:
1. Tail light bulb element is broken.
2. Tail light bulb soldered contacts are extremely worn down.
3. Tail light bulb socket corroded.
4. Tail light bulb socket has no power and or ground.
5. Tail light wiring harness damaged from the rear tire.
6. Tail light rear fender wiring harness connector faulty due to corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets.

Anyone have a wiring diagram for a '85 VT500c? My horn and brake light do not work (tail light does) and turn signals don't blink...........but cycle runs and everything else electrical does w

Hi, Brian all this electronic brain surgery is above my pay grade but if I had to start slicing and dicing I would start with the turn signals before diagnosing any turn signal/running light/parking light issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity. 84 honda shadow front running lights replacement: new running lights have different color codes (red, black & back/white)... which wires go to the existing wires which are: orange, orange/white &...

As the wiring on aftermarket signals is not standardized, you will need to determine which wires are ground, running, and turn respectively. If you can disassemble the signal, the ground will be connected to the outside of the socket, and the other two will be running and turn. If you cannot disassemble the signal, or have access to a multimeter, you can determine which wire is ground by checking continuity between the outer socket and wires. Your stock green wire is the ground, and the orange/white is running light. If when you hook the wires up, your running light is brighter than the turn signal, switch the leads.
Hope this helps.

This motorcycle does not have any type of governor system.
Has the bike been sitting for a long time (ie; more than 6~12 months)? If so, then the carburetors are clogged with fuel varnish and need to be cleaned. A slow return to idle - as well as low power output - can also be caused by plugged carbs, low compression, and/or cracked and leaking intake manifolds.

If the compression is low (less than 140~160 PSI per cylinder), check and adjust the valve tappet clearance. If a valve adjustment fails to restore low compression, then you've got more serious engine troubles.

For your intermittant left front running light, try spraying some electrical contact cleaner into the turn signal switch. As for the rear units, they are turn signals only (no running/parking lights).

84 honda shadow 700 vt lights are unpredictable

There seems to be some short in the circuit of the high beam, you will have to follow the high beam wiring, best would be to get the color of the high beam wire frm the head light bulb socket and trace it along you will sure find somwhere the along it the short.
Check the light switch and the blinker switch too.
Hope this helps!

Did you just replace the bulb with the LED? If so, you probably got the wrong bulb. Make sure it is a 2 circuit bulb like an 1157 dual filament.
