Valve clearances

With such a late model car I suspect you have hydraulic tappets which means the clearance is automatically adjusted when you start

I need the required valve & inyector clearance on a M11 engine

Cummins M11

Intake valve clearance 0.010 inch
Exhaust valve clearance 0.024 inch

The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and that is the order the valves should be adjusted started with first timing mark on main pulley adjust cylinder number 1 The valves and injector should be adjusted at the same time The crankshaft is then rotated 120 degrees to next timing mark and cylinder 5 is adjusted, the crank is rotated again 120 degrees to next timing mark and cylinder 3 is adjusted.then back to the first timing mark, cylinder 6 is adjusted, etc/

Adjusting nut on plunger should be adjusted to the point where you feel the plunger just reaches the bottom.of travel/bottoms out.

What is the valve lash adjustment settings on a craftsman 6.5hp tiller

Hi bbg713,
I hope I can help you out. The valve lash (tappet clearance) on engines of approx this size should be 0.005-0.007 inches (0.13-0.18 mm) for intake valve and 0.007-0.009 inch 0.18-0.23 mm for exhaust valve (cold engine). Adjust tappet clearance by grinding end of valve stem to increase clearance or grind valve seat deeper to decrease clearance. I hope I have helped you a bit. Any more questions are welcome. Regards and good luck. Denis.

Hi,im looking for valve clearance specs for the kawaski 23hp fh680v-8s10 motor ??

The adjustment is .003 - .005. You must hold the rocker arm by lifting up on the valve depressing side and pressing down on the push-rod side while making the adjustment. Any other means of adjustment and it will be incorrect.

Below is quoted from the service manual without pictures
(FixYa Note TORQUE on lock screws is 61 inch pounds)

Valve Clearance Inspection
NOTE
?? Valve clearance must be checked when the engine is cold (at room
temperature).
• Remove the rocker cover (see Cylinder Head Removal).
• Place the piston at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke
turning the crankshaft clockwise facing the flywheel.
No.1 Cylinder:
?? The left projection [A] on the flywheel is faced with the right leg [B]
on the #1 ignition coil [C] as shown.
?? Check the intake and exhaust valves are closed completely, if not turn
the flywheel one turn (360??) clockwise and face the left projection with
the right leg again.
No.2 Cylinder:
?? The left projection [A] on the flywheel is faced with the right leg [B]
on the #2 ignition coil [C] as shown. Follow No.1 Cylinder alignment.
• Then check the valve clearance.
?? Using a thickness gauge [A], measure the valve clearance between
the rocker arm [B] and the valve stem end.
If the valve clearance is incorrect, adjust it.
Valve Clearance (when cold)
Intake, Exhaust 0.075 0.125 mm (0.003 0.005 in.)

Thanks for using FixYa.

Procedure of tappet adjustment

make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center, remove the valve cover, loosen all adjustment lock nuts, adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl #4.now tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge, heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.7675a52.gif
