SOURCE: Correct oil fuel ratio,1980 Pe 400

32 to 1 gas and oil > Two Stroke Engine Oil ( not Motor oil ). This equals 4ounces oil per gallon of gas.

Use premium unleaded gas. No Ethanol gas.

10w40 motor oil for the gearbox. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell.

Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks Beetle100! :)

Hi, Henry after careful deliberation 4 out 5 Suzuki Gods give this one a thumbs up, but just to be on the safe side you should give your local dealer's parts/service department a call to confirm. Good luck and have a nice day.

1981 Suzuki gn400 no spark

I know it sounds silly, but have you checked your earth or ground wiring. If not earthed this type of problem can occur. Did the bike run before you replaced your coil etc? You could have a crook CDI
are you using multi meter mate for correct voltage readings?

I have a 1980 suzuki gs1000 g. clutch?

Drain the oil and install a new oil filter. Dirty, gritty oil can make a clutch act this way. After the oil change , ride the bike for an hour or so. Now drain the oil a second time. Doing this will flush most all of the grit from the engine.

FYI > Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual.
www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp Most all of the manuals are in English.3bed404.gif

FYI > Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

Proper start-up service for a 1980 Suzuki GS550L motorcycle.

Shoot WD40 into each cylinder to get them wet.
Change gearbox oil and oil filter. Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. How bad is the rust inside the gas tank? I would consider a liquid tank liner if rusted. Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html
  • Lube chain or get a new chain (if needed)
  • Lube Throttle, clutch and front brake cables
  • Lube Speedometer cable
  • Grease the swingarm, axle and steering stem bearings.
  • Install a new battery
  • Clean, and balance the carbs. This will be the problem area. They will likely be gummed up pretty good. Be sure to install an in-line fuel filter before starting the bike.

In general are tune ups expensive at suzuki ??

Expect to pay about $200 at a dealer for a tune up. Most of that will be labor, checking your carburetors, air filter, fuel filter, and changing the oil. Call first, some places will not even work on older bikes anymore.
