Gas gas 450 atv starter problems

Only 900 miles on clock,has been running but always had a pop back through the filter on tick over and always turns over replaced battery and still the same..checked starter and seems ok..out of engine but when in bike it sounds tight or its spinning and not engageing..struggles then of course drains the battery..checked all sensors clips practically everything..been told it could be starter pinion cogs..would love some advice before i start spending on it..cheers..

Check the cam timing and the ignition timing. If the engine is firing at the wrong time it will make turning over difficult.

Testimonial: "hi yeah thought the same and it will bump start and run with full started today first click of starter..turned over fast and ran the smoothest ive ever heard it..turned it off and went back to it but back to the same old problem. wont start again..struggles and wines when trying to crank looking at either starter or pinion gear cogs slipping or not engaging properly..could do with some help with this one as no one wants to work on them as there very rare now..even got a new throttle body with injector and throttle position sensor on there way, so ill try that aswell..but everything else seems fine..i spent all day yesterday cleaning all contacts and checking every fuse and wire through out the bike and nothing seems at fault..thanks for all your times.."

Hi .... Try switching the petrol off just prior to stopping the engine and start up again with the petrol OFF. There's enough petrol in the carb to start the bike. A good battery should show over 12 volts. Take the plugs out and give them a good clean or replace them. Is there a petrul pump fitted ? A two stroke needs to be ridden quite hard to maintain efficeincy, higher revs etc ........ let us know how you get on ?

Your gas is bad.  I have to change my all the time If your starter turns but dose not engage the starter barring is out DO NOT BUY STOCK. buy after market when you replace that.  they

Drain and replace the gas with fresh.
Remove the air cleaner and spray carb cleaner into the inlet. Work your throttle a little then put everything back together and try to start it.

SOURCE: 2005 Triumph Daytona 955i Dead Battery and Check engine Light

I have just found my 30 amp fuse blown on my daytona , this prevents the alternator working , it was reading 10.9v before I changed the 30 amp fuse , now it reads 14.5 volts , I think I blew it as I didnt know how to put the alarn into service mode and left the ignition on , anyway I am hoping its just that , 3 heat up/cool down cycles and the engine management light should go out

Its your idle senser sits on top of the manifold u will see it looking at u when u take off air filter cover. Little black plastic.plug in.

1992 chev k3500 automatic after running for a while it doesn't always start. electrical problem. wipers will go on without turning on, get the solenoid tick tick sometimes & sometimes starter goes really...

too many possibilities. IE: fuel pump relay, ignition relay, Coils, wiring failure, bad starter, fuel pump, fuel filter. The list goes on and on. A local GM experienced mechanic can eliminate most of these within minutes with an inspection.

Loud tick noise in crankcase.

Thanks for the background info. With all the work that has been done and the good readings I can suggest a few possibilities.
  1. A broken gear tooth, (highly likely if the "tick" is not present in all gears).
  2. Broken gear tooth on the clutch hub, (highly likely if the "tick" is present in all gears).
  3. Wrong heat range on the spark plug causing detonation.
Set the air screw and pilot screw back to factory settings > turn each inward until LIGHTLY seated. Now open each of them one and one-half turns. The stock jetting should be okay.

Tried to pop start in 3rd gear kfx450r atv engine will not turn

kfx 450 is fuel injected
needs good battery to start
not enough info to diog
does the starter turn over
is it getting spark
or is fuel pump working
need more info

which I can test I guess but I dont even really know what it does really. Any how I havent actually looked at the bike since I got it home just hoping you all had some good insight. why do u have to put in starter fluid? or do you mean you prime the carbs? it ought to start by itself w/ just the gas in the tank. u could be having an issue w/ the petcock or if its a vac operated petcock then its probably a tank cap vent blocked. ,,
