This is most likely to be a faulty sensor. Either speed or brake sensor.

Put in new front brake switch in now cruise won't set

First, for a lucid answer, ALWAYS give year/make/model.

Not knowing any of this from your answer, how can we give a good answer?

I\'m going out on a limb here and ASSUME this is a Harley.
If so, when reinstalling the master cylinder, if done improperly, it will break off the bit on the front brake light switch that operates off the brake lever.
This will cause the brake light to stay on, as the part that causes the switch button to depress is no longer present.
IF the brake light comes on, it will kick off the cruise control, as if the brakes are activated.
IF the brake lights stay on, the cruise control can not activate.

So, IF this is a Harley, and IF the brake light(s) stay on, that most likely is your problem.

See if the brake light stays on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.

Hi Jlbell63, diagnosing cruise control issuse is complex and has very precise and strick guidelines and to save money and time should only be done by an experienced professional so take a ride or trailer your bike over to your local dealers service/parts department, I'm sure they will be happy to take your Harley Davidson for a test ride if necessary/possible and offer professional advice and assistance concerning your issue. Good luck have a nice day.
