SOURCE: Gear Selecting

it might be your gears which are worn out and causing gear slips.. but there is high probability of your clutch plates getting spoilt.. the clutch plated work as disengaging the gears shaft to the main engine shaft.. sometimes when the clutch plates are very much use enough..,they stop working and cant retain to disengage the gears.. so first of all get your clutch checked well and then preoceed if it doesn't fix your problem.. heyii there is a shaft coming ut of the engine crank that connects to your transmission shaft which drives your gears and hence wheels.. so your 2nd gear must have worn out and for that reason the gear isn't working well.. get your gear box opened and check the gear.. SOURCE: 2005 yz 250 shifting problems

Well. I'm a motorcycle mechanic and my 2004 RMZ 250 recently did the same thing, The Shift forks inside my transmission actually bent and were not moving the gears as far as they needed to go and eventually got to where it quit shifting all together, recently also repaired a CR 125 That wouldn't shift at all and it was the shaft the shift forks go on was bent and hung the shift forks. Sounds like your shift forks are bent to me though.

SOURCE: having trouble getting the gears to select down

Since the shifting was okay prior to splitting the cas, chances are one or both of the positioning pins fell out. If this happened, the cases are not lined up correctly.

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Harley Road King having problems

My friend your shifter spring is shot! Get it fixed imedately. Its a $4.50 part but the trannie needs to be pulled to replace it. If it breaks off and hits a gear you can expect a new trannie. Happened in out shop last week. It really took chunks out of the gears.

Take the pivot apart and grease it before disassembling the tranny, use lithium grease.

How to move CX 650 with broken clutch cable stuck in first gear

Either the tiny shift spring under the rear cover is broken or the shift linkage gear next to it is out of position. If this is the case there is no way to put the bike in neutral without removing the engine and taking off the rear cover to fix the shift linkage ( first gear lock up can happen if the shift gear pops out of place during reassembly. Always check your shifter is working correctly before bolting down the rear cover.).
If your only problem was a broken clutch cable you could shift the bike to neutral with the motor off and push it around on it's wheels. If the problem is inside the motor and it has to be moved right away put a furniture dolly under the rear wheel and keep a block of wood handy to place under the side stand to park the bike until it can be taken off the dolly.

It could be as simple as the selecter arm that turns the drum , this will be visible with the clutch cover off( and maybe the clutch) this selector arm is on the other end of the gear lever shaft

The drum is the internal part that positions the selectors in the gbox, when you say there is no resistance would mean its not turning this drum. so its probably not an internal gear or selector fork problem

Gear shift moves up and down wont select gears . gear shift is not lose on the sharft .thanks

You have an internal problem with the shift mechanism. You will need to remove the clutch cover to identify what is broken. It is rare that you can't fix a problem such as this from behind the clutch cover.(ie no need to split the crankcase).pull of the clutch cover & look to see if when you try to select gears if the selector drum turns. It should then be apperent what has gone wrong.(circlip fallen off, selector drum actuator or spring broken)
If you find something broken you need to find all broken pieces before it goes back together so it/they don't find there way into the gearbox or BANG your gearbox will go.
Hope this helps
