Hi, I really need my car for work. The back bearings on the driver side o my 04 4runner is making loud noise and locking sometime. I went to a few mechanics and they said my bearing are bad already, there really surprise considering its a 04, they said to save alot of money its very easy and I can do it myself within 2 hours. Can you please help me and send me a video or give me instructions on how to fix it? I got laid of of work and now I decided to start my own company of handyman, so I dont have another option but ot fix my car on my own, Please help me thats why I am here writting to you, I really need the help.
Thank you for reading this and hope to hear fro you soon
Frank
Pulling the axle is relatively easy. The problem you are going to have is replacing the bad bearings. They are pressed onto the axle shaft, and, if you do not have a large press and the necessary special tools to use the press properly, you are simply not going to be able to do this job yourself. I know that this is not what you want to hear, but, I do this job quite often, and I know very well the level of difficulty. I can give you the directions, but the pressing is the main issue that will hinder you. You are also going to need to replace the brake shoes after the axle is repaired.
