Question about 2001 Yamaha YZF-R1

2001 twin carb R1 i had smoke coming from under the seat

Hi.
I have a 2001 R1. I pulled up and see smoke coming from under my seat, now i have no electrics apart from my dip beam and my alarm still works and bleeps when the bike is touched. It will not start at all or even try and turn over. The battery was red hot and i noticed the rev counter was going mad.
I will check fuses, but will i need a new battery and relays?

Cheers guys

Marvin

Sounds like the rectifier has gone bad, overcharging the battery and cooking wires. Your best bet here is to take it to a dealer rather than risking putting in new parts then frying them the first time you ride the bike again.

I just answered a similar question but it also applies to your problem. The ethanol mix is really hard of the rubber seats in alot of the bikes. Here is the answer I gave the other guy: With little information I am going with the obvious stuff first, I am guessing you might not ride it often or let it sit up for awhile. Gas pouring from the vent indicates that a float valve is stuck or the needle valve or seat seal has dried up and has fuel being forced around them as the fuel pump pressurizes the carbs. It is dangerous to run the engine with overflow as you could have a fire so your remedy will require you to pull the carbs to fix the problem.

easy, there is a single 5mm bolt in the bottom of each bowl. you need to attach a clear hose or place an absorbent rag under them before starting.
