Your problem is related to the idle-up which kicks in when your a/c switches on.

Have this checked by an a/c technician.

Normal idling speed


A manual transmission is about 400 RPM and and automatic is about 700. When you put the automatic in gear it will drop by about 200. When the engine is cold you can be about 1100.

Adjusting idle knob


Hi, Michael it should be noted I am not allowed to use the word "SCR*W" as Fixya considers it profane. The carburetor throttle shaft wheel has two cables the cable closest to the right side of the bike is the throttle cable and the one closest to the left side is the idle cable. Right about the middle between the two is the idle adjustment bolt. It faces out towards the air filter end of the carb . The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the bolt clockwise to increases idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture bolt you may adjust it as well if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the bolt clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the bolt, now back it out 2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and adjust the idle bolt accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, adjust the A/F mixture bolt 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture you are seeking the highest rpm your A/F bolt can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then readjusting the idle bolt back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the A/F bolt all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor. My 2007 yamaha vstar 1100 seems to be getting too much air and not enough gas to stay running what can I do?

Idle speed around 2000 rpm, 1st ride of the year , had this issue. I followed my Manual info and adjusted Cold and Hot adjustments. When restarted the idle was close to normal, but after a minute or 2...


Adjust the idle speed ONLY when the engine is at full operating temp. It should be idled at about 1000 RPM. It will probably be too low when cold and you may have to use the throttle control to keep the engine running until it gets completely warmed up. On the carburetor equipped engines, you cannot adjust the bike where it will idle cold and not be too high when it gets hot. The only way you can get this is with fuel injected models.

I have a primary jet and secondary jet in the carburator of the 500 gl silverwing . and the jets I have is 75 and 125 which goes where . and what should be the setting on the air jet ?


The secondary main jet (125) goes into the jet needle holder in the center of the carb (needle). The primary main jet (75) is between the secondary main jet and the pilot screw (this one is slightly off center) . The start setting for your air screw should be 1 3/4 turns. Warm up your engine and drive for ten minutes. Adjust your idle speed to 1100 + or - 100 rpm. Now turn pilot screw in or out to get highest idle speed. Readjust idle to 1100 rpm. Now turn pilot screw in till idle speed drops 100 rpm. If pilot screw seats go to next step. Adjust the pilot screw out 1 full turn from 100 rpm drop point. Now reset Idle to 1100 rpm. That is how Honda says to set your air screw. Standard setting is probably sea level and going through the procedure will set you up for the altitude where you ride. Do the adjustment during good weather at the altitude you plan to do the most riding.

Idle Speed Control (ISC) Motor OPERATION Eagle Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) System NOTE: The Eagle TBI system is used only on 2.5L Premier engines. The Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor is mounted to the throttle body and controlled by the PCM. The throttle lever rests against the initial adjustment screw of the actuator (plunger). The idle speed is not adjustable. The initial adjustment screw is only used to establish the initial positioning of the actuator when the ISC motor has been replaced. The actuator extends or retracts to control engine idle speed and to set throttle stop angle during deceleration. Based on inputs from the various engine control system sensors and switches to the PCM supplies current to the ISC motor to adjust the actuator position for the particular operating conditions.

My vstar 1100 dies when in idle. acceleration is fine. driving, shifting, everything else is fine. when the bike is coming down to idle, it dies


Is the idle speed set too low? If so, adjust it, using the idle speed adjusting screw, to the correct idle speed (900 RPM). If that's not the problem, then check for air leaks between the carburetors and the engine by spraying WD-40 around the intake manifolds with the engine running. If there is an intake leak, the engine RPM will change briefly when the WD-40 is sprayed near it.
Aside from that, there are two other things that can cause your engine to die when it should be idling: the idle speed mixture adjustment, or low cylinder compression. Of course, if it was idling fine before, and the idle mixture adjustment hasn't been changed, then do a compression check, first. To idle properly, each cylinder's compression needs to be at least 140 psi.

you never adjust the idle speed, it is computer controlled, if there is a problem then you must clean or replace the idle speed control valve and the throttle valve (clean only), final idle speed with a clean control valve is around 575 RPM

Carburator needs ajusting with stage 1


Unless the "anti-tamper plug" has been removed that covers the idle mixture screw, you cannot adjust the carb. If the plug has been removed, you adjust the carb exactly like you would any other carb, for the highest, smoothest idle speed. Once this is obtained, adjust the idle stop screw to obtain the correct idle speed of 1000-1100 RPM.

idle adjust?
there SHOULD be an adjuster under the seat or gastank within easy reach. Clockwise to increase rpm, ccl to decrease rpm. idle around 1400rpm when engine is at normal operating temp. Good luck!
