Battery drained while riding

I own a 2000 FLSTC with 7300 miles. Rode about 140 miles with several stops along the way. As I was riding I noticed my speedometer stopped working, moments later the red engine light came on and I immediatly pulled over and shut off the bike. a moment later when I tried to start the bike the battery was dead, no lights not even the horn worked. I switched batteries with another rider and pulled the light fuse so as to not drain the battery sooner than what may have occured. I was able to ride another 75 miles to home. When I got home the battery still held a charge and the bike started however I did not ride it. Put a battery charger on the battery and the battery appears to be charged. Also the person that I switched batteries has had no problems with the battery from my bike. It appears the battery was charging while the bike was being ridden. So what could be wrong with my bike. Thanks!

Chek your connection where the alternator plugs into your engine casing & spray it with electrical contact cleaner

Sounds like you either have corroded wires going to your battery or your alternator is not properly charging the battery. Get the bike to an autozone and ask them to put their tester on it.

Check the regulator. It sounds as if it has packed in, when the engine is at idle the alternator output is low, but when revved it will be higher, the regulator controls the top end of the voltage range. Also check the battery connections are tight and free from corrosion.

It might be a wiring issue or Battery issue.
Have your battery checked first. if the battery is the issue, it might not be charging. have your rectifier checked
if the battery is fine, check for grounded cables.

Hope this helps

I got my oil changed on my vstar 1100 about a week ago. Rode it locally but did not put on many miles. Over the weekend I went on a long ride with a few friends. At one point we were riding at between...

The o-ring on the filter housing could be the problem, or maybe it was not tightened properly. You will need to clean all the residual oil off, position you bike in the upright position and determine the leak source. Hopefully it's not a case cover. Good luck, i hope this helps.

No start 09 Ultra Classic Electra Glide

Sounds like your charging system is not charging the battery.

Put a volt meter on the battery, run the engine up to maybe 2,000 RPM. The voltage must be at least 13.8V, but not more than 14.5.

If that is all OK, your battery is worn out, and is not holding sufficient reserve. It would need to be replaced.
