Fuel pump will not work ,what controls the fuel pump

Fuel pump works when jumped out but not when the engine is cranking

You more than likely have a blown fuse or a bad relay or both. Also could be a bad connector in the wiring that feeds the pump.

check your key it has a chip in side it and it may be faulty try your spear and i know it sounds silly but just make sure your kill switch is set to run check the hiss fuse under the seat also swap your fuel pump relay with the fan one the fuel pump relay has brown wires going to it and the fan has black and blue if you have an alarm on it it will be worth checking that make sure that the fuel pump is pluged in under the tank take a look at the hiss light does it go out wen the bike is switched on if it stays on you have a HISS problem any problems let me know and i will do my best to help

Carb probably need to be cleaned,if adding cleaner to fuel doesnt do it you will have to open the carb up to clean out solids or other trash.(or water) Clean or repace fuel filter.

Replaced the fuel pump in my 1990 toyota corrola and it still won't work. Is there a safety switch or something that I need to flip? All the fuses work.

There is a fuse it is listed as EFI.Also check the main fuse. And the fuel pump relay. Make sure its not open have someone cycle the ignition switch when you are near the fuel tank do you hear the fuel pump come on? If this method check out and still no fuel pump action,let get you a tool.get a paper clip.find the DLC it in the engine compartment (You are a OBD 1) on the cover match up the mark to the DLC pins there are 2 row a single row and a 3 row. Where is says FP is fuel pump where it says B+ is battery voltage jump the FP and B+ together the fuel pump should turn on while you are jumping those 2 terminal together have someone crank the engine.Tip on you tool with key on as you jump FP and B+ and you see little spark voltage that a good sign the fuel pump has power if you dont your power is somehow disconnected

You say it won't turn over. Do you mean that the starter will not crank the engine? Not cranking is totally unrelated to running out of fuel, other than perhaps someone cranked it until the battery was dead after it ran out of fuel. Try a jump start from a known good battery.
If the starter cranks the engine but the car will not start after running out of fuel, my bet is that the fuel pump was nearing the end of its useful life, and running dry as it ran out of fuel was the end of that fuel pump. Fuel pumps are lubricated and cooled by the fuel, so running dry is really hard on them.

No power going to the fuel pump?

the crank sensor is most likely the problem. If the PCM does not sense the engine is cranking then the fuel pump will not turn on. Also just because a fuel pump will run does not mean it will pump fuel.. Jump it while its in the fuel tank to see if it will pump. But still when you turn the key on you only have power to the fuel pump for 3 seconds unless you continue to crank. . If you have a 3 second voltage pulse when you cycle the key on, then spray some quick start or brake cleaner. If it now starts and you know the fuel pump has power then the fuel pump needs replacement. If you don't have the 3 second pulse look at the crank sensor as being the problem,

Wont start

The fuel pump jump started? The fuel pump relay is in the dashboard relay center. The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. The pumps do fail entirely nd the fuel pump should make some sound if it's running. The fuel filter is on the firewall on the drivers side. It has a bleeder screw in the top of the bnjo bolt that holds the fuel line onto the filter. Loosening this bolt should release fuel pressure. With the bolt loose try to get the pump running ( knock on the relay, fuel tank, while cranking the engine) if fuel flows the engine should run if you don't have other problems. Low battery will crank the engine but not turn on the fuel pump and or the injection system and even the ingtion system. It may still crank and sound OK. Voltmeter the battery with the engine cranking, Less that 10 volts it's unlikly to start. John

Car will not start

you getting sparks; check the basic from fuse and relay. Its seems like you not getting any fuel by having to give it fuel, check the fuel pump see if it working, you can remove it and connect straight to 12v and do a jump. If the fuel pump is good then it will be the crank sensor, crank sensor turn on the fuel pump as long the engine continue turning over. what crank sensor does it sense the crank/flywheel turning and it send single to the computer than computer send power to the fuel pump. sensor tend to go bad over time and heat exposure; the sensor it fairly cheap to replace.

Starting probems on a 1998 kia sportage no power to fuel pump

Easy to test pump. Takes two people. Disconnect fuel line at carburator and hold end in a catch can. Turn over engine. Does fuel come out. Yes, problem is not fuel pump. No, proplem may be pump or might be clogged fuel line or a fuse. rule out fuses first (cheapest) fuse will be labeled fuel pump. Don't jump your fuel pump while it's in the car. OK to jump it on a test bench but in the car full of fuel is a bad combination with sparks....
