I have a 1998 F6C - european model - when I give it full throttle from 2000 revs, it starts pulling only to drop power between 2750 and 4500 and then it pulls hard again to redline. It does not do this if the throttle is fed progressively. Plugs are all one colour and clean; recenlty serviced but still does it. Can anyone help me

All Valkyrie gas tanks have a Sealed cap !!! Their is a VENT tube under the tank . When removing the tank and installing it back on , Make sure this tube is NOT pinched under neath against the
frame !!... This tube allowes air to enter tank ., so fuel will flow to the on - off valve ???

The fuel petcock valve is vacuum operated. Check the hose attached to the valve that runs down to #6 (port side, rear) cylinder intake runner. Disconnect the hose at the intake runner (near the spark plug) and using either a hand held vacuum pump or by mouth, draw a vacuum on the hose. You will hear a low volume click in the valve if it is working. The diaphram in the valve could be cracked if it is not cycling with vacuum applied. 4 phillips screws removes the cover so you can inspect the diaphram. Check the hose too for cracks or holes.

There might be a breather hole in the tank's cap. See if it's blocked. If the tank is completely airtight, at a given time, the pressure inside the tank will be lower than the atmospheric pressure (due to the lowering of the volume of gasoline inside) and then, gasoline stops flowing into the carburettor.

1998 klr 650 acts like it is out of fuel

When you have to go full throttle does it accelerate like a normal one when given full throttle, or does it just barely keep running? Is there a carburetor or is it fuel injection? Try some fuel system cleaner. But you say it's intermittent, correct? If so then it's a real mystery.

Runs rough unless you choke while driving, leaks gas out of 1 of the carbs on rt. side

That is one of the best signs that the carbs need rebuilding and cleaning. On a Valkyrie there are SIX carbs. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing. When it's done Hang on it will run like new.

Where is the gas gage on 1998 valkyrie

There is no gas gauge. You have to set your trip mileage on the speedometer to 0 each time you fill up the gas hog. I go 80 miles before I have to switch the tank to reserve leaving maybe 20 miles left before walking. Don't even think about pushing that bike to the gas station just leave it. You will need a good insurance policy to protect against theft if you leave it unattended.

Hi R_hughes, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Good luck and have a nice day. 1998 Honda Motorcycle Service Repair Workshop Manuals

Sound like you have some gum or dirt in a carburator. Also make sure the air filter is "clean." Have those carbs looked at and all passages cleaned up.

Could be that the gas tank cap is not venting properly and is causing a partial vacuum in the tank. Next time this happens, open the gas cap and see if fuel flow is restored. If so, take the cap off and see if it needs cleaned/derusted.

hi,just a note dont know weather it will help or not ,but the bike is not that old and i doubt the tank would be leaking,a more likely cause would be a split fuel line or loose fuel tap, hope this helps
