Model 917276702 24 HP 48" End of last season - my tractor had a hard time pulling a small grade. It's about 5-6 yrs old - hasn't been abused, but I figured it was about time for a tune up. Had Sears come out last week & tune it up - it's still has little pep. When I mentioned it to the tech - he said the transmission might be going. Really - I thought tractors lasted alot longer than 5-6 years. Need some help - any ideas why it's so sluggish? Thanks

does it turn over slow or fast if it turns slowly thats the problem so it could be battery or starter they have to have a good amount of rpms to burn fuel right when starting if not it floods out the engine with gas hope this helps thanks wade

Sue your brother is right! I had the same problem and it turned out to be the gas cap. the small breather hole on the top was plugged with dirt. once I cleaned it out I took the rubber gasket out from the bottom of the cap and cleaned that as well. runs great now.

I have the same tractor. If you have the transmission in <reverse> this will happen every time. It's a safety feature. Be sure the tractor is in <neutral> or one of the 6 forward gears.
