Question about 2004 Suzuki VL 800 Volusia

'04 volusia still shutting down

The bike is carburated, 41k. miles, shuts off after running or idleing for a few minutes. sometimes 10 min or one day i was able to ride for 45 min. after shutting down it won't immediatly start back up. i have to wait 20 or 30 min then it starts with no problems. i've already emptied and cleaned out the tank and lines, also i added an inline fuel filter and can see fuel flowing through. i've always used premium gas. same problem persists.

tried removing filler cap, started the bike, ran in driveway for 13 min before it shut down again. repeated the test a couple of times for the same results.

I would recomend checking to be sure the fuel and vacum lines n the tank are installed correctly, Open the fuel filler and start the bike and see if it has any change on the problem, if so you have a vacum issue.

Why did I was my 2005 Ultra Classic trike engine shut off while driving, start back up, went a few miles, before shutting off? Is that the kill switch malfunctioning?

Sounds like you may be low on oil. Bike runs until oil is pumped on top of engine, and not enough remains to coat the sensor. Engine shuts off, oil returns to reservoir, bike runs again....i guess that's why they call it a motor cycle....

My 90 fzr 1000 will run fine for about 10 miles then it shuts down with no warning.after siting 5 t0 10 min it starts and shuts down mutch sooner from then on.

Check the fuel filter, and fuel pump.a plugged up filter will overwork the pump, overload will get the pump too hot and shut it down
another problem could be overheating ignition module, caused by incorrect resistance replacement ignition coils. look up the proper resistance's for your bikes coil's

NO TSSM. bike keeps shutting off

Hi Angelknight6, and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or damaged battery.
2. Loose, corroded or broken battery cable.
3. Alternator not charging or below normal rates.
4. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
5. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
8. Fuel tank vent system plugged or gas cap not venting.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel valve vacuum line broken or carburator vent line closed off.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.

Relaced coil, ignition module, starter relay bike shuts down when hot and won't start

Replace the cam pickup in the nose cone on the right side of the motor. Due to heat cycles over time the epoxy melts and the wires fall out of the pickup. Pretty easy job to do, but you will have to reset the timing on the bike when you are done.

I am looking to buy my first bike and i am wonder is 28000 miles on a 2003 volusia is considered alot and how many miles do bike usual run for

depends on maker-german n italian rides r produced well--there r many companies thru out the world n much info available--air cooled engines wear out faster then liquid--always warm a bike up 1st n after a trip cool it down by ridin it slow-dont just shut it down-that helps alot--make sure proper oil is present-no ther not as long lived as cars

Cooling Fan Acting Up

in that it doesn't run like it used to hasn't started up while riding in 95 degree days and after I shut off the bike it may or may not start and sometimes starts a few minutes after I shut it down, at which time it sounds like it is struggling for a few seconds.  The blades spin freely when I spin them manually, and I can't find any troubleshooting procedures in the manual. ,Check the fuse and the temp sensor.,,,
