I have a Honda Shadow Vlx600 and it won't start unless you trip the relay and then once it's going the headlight does not come on, but all other lights work...What can cause this??? I push the start button and nothing, but if I trip relay by the battery, the bike will start and run good, but headlight does not come on, all other lights and stuff work. Check headlight and its okay, checked the fuse and its okay, checked the battery and its good. So what can cause this?? Is it a relay or my whole button??
Headlights and, starter motors require more amps (power) than the blinkers and, taillights
so: jump your battery before you tear into the wiring
If it still doesn't start or, light up
I'll help you troubleshoot the wiring
SOURCE: changing headlight
Remove trim ring around headlamp. Remove light assy, unplug wire connector then remove the bulb from the lamp.

Had a similar problem on mine when I installed the cobra light bar. If you remove the headlight from the housing there is a connector (think it was orange) with a single wire. It is the starter-light cutout. my connector shorted out so I had to cut it and replace it. No headlight problems since. It is worth checking, I had to pay $50 to have the Honda shop find it. Good luck & ride safe!

Same thing happened to mine. Take apart the start button and clean the contacts.
