Have you checked the distributor? Open the dissy cap and check the ignition points, if they're very dirty this may cause them to miss. Also check the spark leads for any cracks, as this can cause the spark to arc to the chassis and not the plug, I've seen this a couple of times. Hope this helps!

I have a 1990 fxr. cranks but wont start

Hi Anonymous, some of the following will not apply because of your year and model, when checking for spark the CKP needs to measure the compression bump in order to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM so always check for spark with either a third plug grounded or lift the end of the plug boot 1/2 " off one of spark plugs that are in the head. and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty
2. Fuel supply valve turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded with gasoline as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Fuel valve or filter clogged.
6. Vacuum hose to automatic fuel supply valve disconnected, leaking, or pinched.
7. Discharged battery, loose or broken battery connections especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends
8. Loose wire connection at coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, spark plug cable connections loose,
or cables connected to wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module, or sensors " Manifold Absolute Pressure" "Camshaft Position Sensor" "Crank Position Sensor" "Brake Apply Sensor
11. Engine lubricant to heavy ( winter operation )
12. Sticking or damaged valves or push rod wrong length.
13. Primary cam sproket spline sheared or missing spacer.
14. Security alarm system not disarming.

Have a 1994 Yamaha Virago 750. Just running on rear cylinder. Good compression and fireing.

Have you checked the spark at the high tension lead or at the sparkplug of the front cylinder?
To make sure the plug is in working order take it out, attach it with a wire to the cylinder, connect the HT lead and see if the spark really reaches the gap. if it doesn't or it's weak then the plug is shorted replace it.

Replace both of your spark plug caps. They are available after market (NGK brand) for about $5 each. Simply unscrew the old ones off of the end of the wires and screw the new ones on. When a spark plug cap burns out the 5000 OHM resister the motorcycle will stop firing on that cylinder.

My carbs seems not functioning well,i tried to clean it thoroughly but somehow only one of the two's giving the fire

Hi, how is your spark plug condition, is it in primo condition?
Most spark plugs are resistor types, so when they are not working it just died.
One way I find is good indicator is, now you know that one is firing and one is not, right?.
1.Take one spark plug out at a time, clean them make sure that their anode are clean from soot and oil, it is not wet by unburned fule droplets.gap the plugs to factory recommended gap..
2. Write a "1" on the first one you took out then mark "2" on the second one.
3. Switch them around and see if the one that earlier didnot want to fire will work in the new position.
4. How to tell which works or not. You know which one works in the beginning when you started the bike before you gap and cleaned it. Keep the exhaust pipe from that working cylinder in mind.
5. After you cleand and gap it properly you swith their location and now check which exhaust pipe cylinder got hot.
6. If the same exhaust cylinder got hot as in the begining then your coil is not giving electrical pulses to fire the spark plug.
7. If it heats up the dead exhaust pipe then you spark plug needs replacing, and do replace both of them together..
8. Now to tackle your carb, you had done a very thorough clean up in you carb, meaning, ensuring your carb float level is correct, the main and idle jet needles are clean from gunks, no air leaks in your bowl diaphragm. Your fuel flows correctly without obstruction from the tank meaning the fuel flow tap is wide open .
9. Your battery state is fully charged.
10. With all that, you should have no problem.
Cheers. Don't forget to mark this advise.

Just got my self a 2005 kx250f was runing fine one day and now i cant start it changed air filter spark plug and cleand the carb it back fies alot

The valves probably need adjusting. This should be done periodically with four stroke dirt bikes. When my bike's valves need adjusting, it kills me trying to kick it, and it backfires a lot.

Another symptom I have noticed for valves that need adjustment is when I pull in the clutch sometimes, the bike will stall.

Hope this helps.

Suzuki gt380 running on 2 cylinders carbs clean main jet clear could it be the coil but their seems to be a good spark

HI A TWO STROKE NEEDS ONLY THREE THINGS TO RUN, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A POINT GAP AND CORRECT IGNITION TIMEING,

1 FUEL
2 SPARK
3 MOST IMPORTANTLY IS COMPRESON,

IF YOU HAVE A SPARK THEN I WOULD NOT SUSPECT A COIL THEY EITHER WORK OR THEY DONT WORK.
IS THE PLUG GETTING WET ON THE CYLINDER THAT DOES NOT RUN? IF YES THEN ITS NOT A FUEL PROB, IF ITS NOT THEN IT COULD BE A BLOCKAGE SOMEWERE, WHEN ITS RUNING PLACE YOUR HAND OVER THE BACK OF THE CARB, YOU SHOULD THEN FEEL SOME SUCTION, DOING THIS WILL RESTRICT THE AIR FLOW AND PULL FUEL UP THROUGH THE MAIN JET, ELIMINATING A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM ITS HOULD THEN FIRE AS YOU HAVE FORCE CHOKED THAT CYLINDER ONLY, IF IT FIRES QUICKLY REMOVE YOUR HAND AND ALOWE AIR FLOW, IF IT DOES NOT FIRE YOU MAY HAVE A COMPESION PROBLEM, REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG, AND USE A COMPESION TESTER TO CHECK FOR COMPRESION VALUES, ALL THREE SHOULD BE SOME WHAT EVEN, IF YOU DONT HAVE A TESTER PLACE YOUR THUM OVER THE PLUG HOLE RESTRICTING IT COMPLETELY KICK OVER THE MACHINE AND THE COMPRESION SHOULD BE FELT, MAYBE EVEN BLOWING YOUR THUMB OFF THE TOP OF THE CYKINDER HEAD SURFACE, REPEAT THIS FOR ALL THREE CYLINDERS IF THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERRENCE TO THE LESSER YOU CAN THEN SUSPECT MECHANICAL FAILURE

1978 YAMAHA RD400E NO SPARK ON ONE CYLINDER BIKE RUNS ON

Hello,

Remove both sparkplugs from engine. Plug them back in the sparkplug cables and let them rest on the engine.
Make sure your battery is well charged.
Check for sparks while kick-starting...
Interchange the sparkplugs in the cables:
-Same plug give sparks: replace the spark plugs.
-Same side of engine sparks: interchange the low-voltage connector at the ignition coils.
Give it a try:
Same engine side sparks: Replace the defective ignition coil.
Other side of the engine sparks: Check the circuit harness for loose connectors, and/or Clean-replace the breaker points ( left side of the engine carter ).
