Clean your carb as it is most likely varnished up after sitting for a whole year.

Drain and replace the gas with fresh.
Remove the air cleaner and spray carb cleaner into the inlet. Work your throttle a little then put everything back together and try to start it.

Hi, I have a Yamaha xtz 660 1998 model, the problem is that the starter is continously engaged as in starting as soon as the battery is connected! - even without the ignition on, is there an easy solution...

Your ignition switch or starter button is stuck! Or the starter return spring is broken. I would look at the start switch to start with, sounds like it is stuck in the start position.

a common problem with those, amongst many other yamahas, is the starter clutch gear. if it's not the starter solenoid , most likely it's the starter clutch gear.

05 raptor 660 has new starter turns but wont engage

Sounds like there is something wrong with the bendix, it does not seem to engage, remove the starter, place the starter against the engine and push the start button to see if the bendix slides along the shaft if it does easily then check the gear inside the starter housing

2 possible issue, your starter solenoid and or your starter relay.

i would not taket the last owner's word for it, even the bike does not agree it is new.

Sounds like the carb has over flowed and filled the crankcase with gas.
You will need to drain the oil, and re-fill it with new oil at the proper amount. Also replace the oil filter.
Clean the air filter and replace the spark plug.
Clean the carb, making sure the float and float needle are functioning properly.
That should fix you up!

when its hot and humid you could be having a ignition coil or cable problem.check cables and replace plugs, then take it from there. have your ignition coil tested also. backfiring is a sure sign of an ignition problem
