Bike acts as if running out of fuel.but has plenty of fuel

Bike acts as if running out of fuel.plenty of fuel no restriction.can shake side to side and restart and run maybe two blocks then again same prob.starts easy,and will idle all day.just cant ride

    checked fuel filter and replaced plenty of fuel flow have not opened carb as of yet, but will try and let you know thanks

    I have the same issue. It just started doing this about 3 weeks ago. The bike has 60,000 miles. It has plenty of fuel and I have change the fuel filter already but that did not cure the problem. My bike will totally quit at higher RPM in any gear. New plugs last week. Did not help. The electronics still work so I have ruled out crank sensor. The bike will fire again when I let off the gas and the RPM's drop. Anyone have this problem as well? If so, what the hell do I do to fiux it. Very annoying,

    Sounds like what my bike is doing but I have already addresses these issues and it still quits while running at higher RPM

There may be moisture in your carbs if the bike has been idle over ths xmas

Sounds like the fuel filter needs to be changed. It is letting enough fuel thru to idle but not enough to run.

1996 kdx 200, starts good, boggs out and shuts off while riding like it is running out of gas. any ideas?

my 1998 kdx 200 had the same problem last week. I know exactly what the problem is. My air filter was so clogged with dirt,oil,gunk, that there was absolutely no air or very little mixing with the fuel that it just refused to run. I fouled 3 plugs trying to make it back to campground. I also had black gunk just a dripping from my exhaust which has never happened before, but since it wasnt getting any air it was running so rich. At first i thought that i got water in my carb or fuel lines somehow,cause we were going through some nasty deep puddles. when i got to camp and removed my seat and saw my air cleaner i knew exactly what the problem was. I cleaned out the air cleaner and she ran again...but just like you stated, on the trail my bike acted like i was running out of fuel and just stalled. wish it wasnt when i was doing about 35 but ya know how it goes...i let my bike sit for 5 min, cause wouldnt immediately restart, then it would start. I would make it another 500 yards and stall again. confused i switched tank to reserve, still had plenty of fuel but i was stumped. then eventually i would foul a plug but i always carry 3 plugs even though i make it 2 seasons on 1 im 99% sure thats your problem....

2001 zx-6r.... bike idols great and takes off great....after a few minutes bike cuts out...acts like it is getting no fuel...idol for a minute then takes off fine again... have replaced fuel pump...pick up...

Just a shot in the dark here. I would check for (1) Fuel filter. (2) restriction in fuel line to the fuel pump. then, the fuel line from the pump to the carb's . Even though you have a filter there is a small screen in the main fuel inlet to the carbs. Next this could be a weak pump. As the fuel bowls fill up you have a supply of fuel to start and run for a few minutes, as you use that fuel the pump is not replenishing the fuel in the bowls, and you run out of fuel. As you sit still, fuel goes back in the carbs and she starts up. Look for a restriction or weak pump.

Hello i have a aprillia sr50 and i brought it from brand new i ran the bike in for 300 miles and then i fully de-restricted the bike and placed a de-restricted exhaust on and a bigger jet and had the...

That looks like a REED VALVE leak.
If your 2 stroke kept coming out from the carb air intake and as you say that sometimes a back fire in the exhaust.

Check these....
  • Reed valve
  • Crank oil seal ( there might be air leak in the block )
  • Exhaust pipe ( might be already blocked )

My Yumbo Dakar 200cc bike dies after riding in 5th gear reving medium-highish for a couple of minutes, it usually just dies after i hit the clutch (coasting), but on long runs @ around 50-60mph in 5th gear...

I have a couple of ideas what may help.
First I would think it was starving for fuel.Or maybe an unusual ignition system fault- So how do we find out?
Well-you could try checking the bike for spark immediately after the bike stops.
Remove the spark plug-Re-fit to the cap-place plug resting on metal where you can see it(DO NOT HOLD PLUG-HIGH VOLTAGE)-kick over & check for spark.If theres no spark-try a new plug but if the problem persists then the bike has a faulty ignition(coil,cap,plug,stator.ignition/kill switch,wireing)
I think it is more likely starving for fuel.
A faulty fuel tank filler cap vent or carby vent tube pinched or blocked.
To check the filler cap-ride the bike & when the problem just starts-quickly crack open the fuel tank filler cap to let air in/out. If bike runs ok then the cap is blocked.
To check the carby vents -just look at them & make sure none are blocked or pinched.They usually come from each side of the carby & one from the bottom(usually clear or semi-clear hoses).

I have a 1991 honda cbr 600, she'll start fine with the choke fully on. As she warms I let the choke off slightly and keep her at about 1,500rpm. Then she'll start steadily cutting out. It doesn't matter...

You didn't say whether the bike has been sitting (without being run) for any amount of time. If it has, I'd say that either your pilot jets are plugged, or you float needle is blocked/restricted; thus not allowing it to refill the carb bowls as fast as the fuel is being drawn from them by the engine. The later though usually only effects 1 maybe 2 carbs. Not usually all 4. the plugged pilots jets are more likely.
So how long has the bike sat without running? (And "It was running before I parked it" doesn't apply here) :-)

Bike loses power and stops will not restart for a few minutes ,when restarts can be driven a few miles before problem happens again. Also the bike has no power even when the engine is running and you open...

Hi, Fongraham the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, 9 volts or lower.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, O2, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
9. . Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
10. Fuel tank empty.
11. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
12. A faulty Fuel Pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
13. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
14. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

My yamaha tzr 250 runs for just a few minutes and the engine dies out.and when i try to start will only run again after a few minutes of rest....

Check your fuel lines and filters. If these are dirty then maybe the fuel is restricted so when you rest the bike the carbs will refill.

Your fuel tank breather is blocked. As the fuel is sucked out of the tank a partial vacuum is built up and no more fuel can come out.
Check the breather holes in the filler cap or the breather pipe if it has one.

Check the intake manifold/s, even a small leak will make it run poor. Being stored for five years then putting it into use, you may have a blocked main jet. Sea-foam is a great product and I would have used that product to store the bike but not to get it running. It is slow acting so it doesnt work like carb cleaner.
