Pull the cord cover off and check to see there is not to much slack in the cord when fully wound...if there is you can rewind the slack onto the spool...the spring may be broken and needs to be replaced

I have 06 Honda trx450r I pulled started it the other day and it makes a grinding / ratchet sound idling and when I rode it back to the house I haven't rode it scents it happen what has went wrong ?


sounds like the cogs on the pull start are not retracting properly take the pull start off and spray it with brake cleaner and re grease it make sure it works correctly when you pull on the cord the cogs come out and when released they fold in

Hi I have softail duece 1450 have just had a full service done my problem is jerking at low speed when coming to an intersection I have to pull in the clutch early to stop this can u help?


1. check clutch cable for proper adjustment
2. see if proper trans oil was used and filled to proper level.
3. check clutch springs for proper tension ,
4. check clutch plates for wear or dry spots.

How to unstick brake light on 2008 yamaha


Hi The back brake light is on, right. You need to check two things: 1 there is a spring and switch connected to the rear brake pedal. Just kneel down and look at the pedal and follow the linkage back to the rear brake mechanism. Somewhere there should be a connection (spring or wire) that goes to a switch. When you push the brake pedal down the spring or wire pulls a piece inside the switch that makes two contacts in the switch complete a connection that turns the brake light on. This switch must be free and working properly and not sticking as well. It also needs to be properly adjusted so that it will turn off and on at the right times. Most of the time this switch gives the problem.
2 Newer bikes have a switch on the front brake as well. Use the same theory and test procedure to test and fix. If it is a hydraulic clutch (they use brake fluid) there could be a Hydraulic activated switch, make sure it is working properly and not sticking.
If the rear brake is Hydraulic there could be a mechanical switch or a hydraulic switch used. Sorry for the long answer. I hope this helps. Rod

After I have put the pull cord back together. How do I get it back on the bike. It recolls befor I put it on the bike ones I put it on the bike it does not want to recoll


be sure when putting cover on, that the recoil is engaging smoothly as your putting on, no wedging or binding.
Its possible that you simply need to pre-load the recoil spring a couple more rounds. pull the rope out a couple rounds - hold the insides - and wrap the cord around the pully to take-up the extra pulled out.

Change rear brakes


Just follow this instructions:

1 Unbolt the brake caliper from the front fork or rear swingarm, using a socket wrench. Use a 14-mm hex socket to unscrew the front caliper bolts, and a 6-mm Allen socket for the rear caliper.
2 Slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Suspend the caliper from the handlebars or frame, if needed, using a bungee cord.
3 Pull the hair clip pin out of the brake pad's retaining pin on the outside face of the caliper using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Push the retaining pin out of the back of the caliper with your finger.
4 Pull the brake pads and their spring clip out of the caliper. Retain the spring clip, and discard the brake pads.
5 Reinstall the brake calipers, following the reverse method of removal.

I used two screewdrivers ( phillips )one to force the large spring down to the spring holder and then a small flat screewdriver to flip it over onto the holder, the smaller spring was pulled in to place by some strong cord

I need to replace the pull cord and put the pull cord spring back in its casing on a Yamaha 250 ATV. Milly


okay,after you have dissembled replace pull cord set aside now place the spring into the casing by catching the end into the retaining slot and wind it down into the casing hang onto to it now feed the cord end thru the hole afix handle onto cord then place into casing make sure that the spring and cord pulley dog together now holding pulley down in casing pull alittle cord out between case housing and pulley and preload spring by turning pulley around with cord 4 to 6 times secure pulley you should be all set good luck

I have a jammed Honda 600 Transalp centre stand. Can anyone help ?


I have just fitted a main stand to my Transalp 650 , if by jammed you mean rusted i think the only way would to remove it ! if thats the case you would have to remove the springs take out the split pin and tap the main bar out , grease well and fit back using two screewdrivers , use a larg phillips and a small flat screwdriver, lever the large spring down to the spring holder with the phillips and then then flip it onto the spring holder using the small flat screwdriver, then i used some strong cord to pull the small spring down onto the same spring hook ( holder)

How to put spring back on kickstand 2004 1200 sportster


There is a place on the frame and a place on the kickstand for each end of the spring to connect to. With the bike on the kickstand and someone to help steady the bike, use a pair of side cut pliers or a very strong spring hook to pull the spring and rconnect it to the kickstand.

If you can't get it this way, remove the pivot bolt, connect both ends in their proper positions and work the kickstand back into position so the pivot bolt will go back in.

It's tough but it can be done.

You are over torquing the springs. Buy a generic manual from your automotive shop. ZX11 specs are much higher than the GPZ.
