I have a Yamaha Roadstar 2004 and just had the starter relay replaced today. I was driving it home and stopped for gas. I then discovered oil leaking under my bike. What could this be?

Sounds like the O-ring at the starter motor was damage during install. Take it back and have them put a new O-ring in properly. On many bike engines the starter and alternator penetrate into the oil filled gear box.

Chirpping sound coming low unit sounds like around the primary drive

Check the tension on the final drive belt. If the belt is loose, it will make a chirping sound especially when you shift gears.

Good Luck

Just installed a new starter, and now it makes a whining sound, but all the gears seem to be in fine shape, but does not start. Starter motor just seems to spin

Check your alignment of starter, as it may need to be shimmed one way or the other in order for starter drive to align properly to allow it to extend fully and mesh properly with ring gear teeth. It doesn't take much for drive to be out and not fully extend .

Clicking sound

Check the gear shift lever. If it moves in and out from the housing this may be your sound. I had this problem. To fix it remove the lever and install a rubber buffer, I made one from a piece of plastic hose of the right diameter. This will prevent the lever from moving in and out but not up and down.

Tach moving slowly

Bad plugs or other electrical problems can mess with an electronic tach. Yours has a cable so it sounds like a mechanical drive. If so, it is probably your drive cable. take it off and pull out the inner drive spring, clean it well, as well as the inside of the outter cable, then either use a light grease or oil to lube it before re-installing it. Check both ends of the drive cable for wear or rounding off.
