I have 1986 FJ1200 that quits as if runing out of gas and will restart after cooling off. Originally problem was in hot weather. Currently will do in 60 degree. Usually miles between stops will get shorter and shorter.

what kind of cutoff? dies it all of the sudden die or will it cough first, then die?

if all of the sudden (electrical issue), do all of the dash lights die too?

if it coughs & sputters first (gas issue), did it just begin after fueling up? how soon after it dies can you restart it?

I know this is an old post, but better late than never! My FJ 1200 did the same thing. The fix was simple but took a long time to figure out. There's an air vent in the gas cap that malfunctions, causing negative pressure (vacuum) to build up in the tank causing fuel starvation. The solution is to disassemble the cap and remove the tiny orange rubber pieces. They serve no real purpose but to cause your engine to die.

Charging problem on 1985 Yamaha FJ1100 ,runs fresh battery down in very short time.

I f you find the regulator, there will be three wires ln the connector the same color(yellow?) any pair of these should produce 50-60v AC with the engine running. If you get AC voltage, then it is likely a regulator problem

Just purchased a FJ1100 and do not have a book for it. Need to change oil and don't know how many quarts I need.

Get a owners manual like Haneys. You could get one from any motorcycle parts store.

Oil drain plug 1984 fj1100

Drain plug will be a 17 mm. Can be on the side but usually on the bottom. If pipes are not aftermarket they should'nt be in the way. If you can't get to it w/a socket then use a combination wrench. Don't overmuscle when reinstalling cause bolt is steel but engine is aluminum....Caution is the word ! Oh yea and pick up an owners manual at your dealer..invaluable...Good Luck to you friend...Tim
