So... I'm starting to get just a bit frustrated... after installing the new PCM, my dodge avenger, 96 2.0L ran for 5 days then went out again, fuel pump works and I've got spark but no start..

Again, new coil pack, new cam and crank sensor, new PCM, checked all fuel injectors, fuel pump works, got spark, turns over but no official start...

Rob, I have gotten a new PCM just recently, ran 5 days on it, what would cause it to go bad so quick? And Oliver, I have change so many parts because it was at one point the crank sensor, then the ignition coil pack, then the PCM was the last issue, this issue looks to be the PCM again but I honestly don't know what would have cause the PCM to die so soon only after 5 days...

After all that work its terrible that something else goes bad however since you do get spark and fuel i would say crank or cam sensor but then if one of those goes bad it wont allow engine to turn over and would shut fuel pump off. so there is only one thing left to cause it you have a short in the harness somewhere maybe just a lose connection on the cam or crank sensor put dieelectric grease in all your connectors

ok well this is kind'a strange... it was #2 sparkplug went bad, not even a month old plug, and my car wouldn't start which I'm guessing is cause the cylinder was flooded, can't think of another reason only one plug would cause the whole car to not start thanks for you help!

SOURCE: 1999 dodge caravan new pcm new crank and cam

If you have replace new cam sensor with no sparks and the coil are good putting out 12 volt, my guess would be the computer it self faulty. cam sensor sense the cam turning and send info to computer telling computer to disperse the charge from the coil pack to the plugs assuming relay, cam sensor, coil, plugs, and wires are good. make sure the cam sensor is put in properly and position.

You need to use a LED type test light for the injectors or a Bosch style Noid light for the injector. To test the cam/crank sensor signal you either need a scanner to read them or a lab scope to show you a signal. The pickup plate in the dist handles the injector timing, the crank sensor provides a RPM signal. They both feed the computer information for ignition timing. Good fuel pressure, injector activity(Noid), and good spark out of the coil. The coil is what I replace the most of.

The cylinders are numbered as on the spark pack you changed. You might have done better putting the seafoam in the tank as an injector cleaner. Not sure why you changed so many parts, you seem to know how to get the codes from test connector lead hookup and the blink pattern. You might also want to check the fuel rail pressure and the crank and cam angle sensors. Before replacing the injector, swap the #4 injector with the adjacent one and see it the code moves with the injector or stays put. If the code stays on #4, then check the injector wiring, if it moves clean or replace the injector.

Remove the black connector to pcm . Check for corrosion pins . Then inspect the plug end for corrosion. I found moisture seep by the weather pack seal and wire on older vehicles.

2010 dodge avenger 2.4L motor seemed like I ran out of gas and stalled wouldn't start so I poured gas til it was full then everytime I try to start it it smells like gas n has a hard time starting

Camshaft position sensor. It needs to know which cylinder is needing fuel, so it can fire the injectors at the correct time. It must have failed you. It should not be too difficult to replace or very expensive.

I have a 1997 dodge avenger es 2.5 liter here's

Check the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator for any sign of gas being sucked into the line. A failed regulator will let extra gas get into the engine. If it's okay, have the fuel pressure checked. That's sure a lot of gas, way too much for the engine. Good luck.

I have a 1999 Dodge Avenger and it only starts when it wants to or something. It turns over like it wants to but it just keeps turning over. i thought it was because i ran out of gas so i changed my fuel...

You may have vapor lock. This would prevent the fuel from getting to the injectors. Try pumping the gas to get the car started. Once started, if the car will stay running, your problem should be cured. If the problem remains, it could be a more serious problem like the PCM (computer). I'm guessing it's vapor lock or otherwise air in the fuel line since the problem started after running out of gas.

had a chance to look into this. check the power and grounds at the pcm connector c1 2and 22 are power 31 and 32 are ground. check the 5 volt power to some of the sensors, map, tps, crank, cam need to see if there is power same connector c1 #17 and connector c2 #31. if there isn't 5 volts at one of the two wires then you need to disconnect some of the sensors one at a time untill you see 5volts again. if it come back then that sensor is bad. or there is a problem with the wiring. if all wiring and the voltage is there to start off with then yes the pcm is bad. let me know how it goes.

Will not restart, no spark , new cap and rotor installed, ran two days then will not restart again.

if it is a 2.5 v6 the problem could be 1 of 2 things distributor or crank sensor.
