Could be throttle bodys need synching, first adjust your TPS
(throttle position sensor)as per factory instructions. It will show you how to in a haynes manual. If the problem still persists,it will need throttle bodys synching. Its just like carb balancing on older bikes.they do run out as milage increases, its no major problem.

My bike having no power under 3k rpm and sometimes while riding under 3k rpm suddenly the engine ceases for a mere fraction of second and again resumes. what causes this?

Hi, Radha my gut tells me it is a fuel issue start with # 13 the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Fuel tank empty.
13. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
14. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
15. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
16. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

I cleaned the injectors on 2006 yamaha vstar 650 got a little more power but when I open full throttle and release it some it is surging what could be making it surge now?

Hi, Peggy try running a can of fuel stabilizer (Sea Foam) in the gas tank otherwise the usual suspects are:
1. Extremely lean fuel mixture.
2. Dirt, rust, water, or ethanol sludge in the fuel system.
3. Sticky throttle cables.
4. Multiple carburetors not in synchronization.
5. TPS sensor out of adjustment or faulty.
6. Wrong spark plugs for the type of service.
7. Throttle bodies not in synchronization (FI)
8. Faulty O2 sensor.
9. Clogged, stuck, or faulty IAC valve.
10. Aftermarket components not compatible with ECM.

When applying the throttle my scooter surges. When I give it gas quickly it slowly declines when I give it gas slowly it gains speed slowly but never gets past 23mph

Hi Lynn, for hard starting the usual suspects are:
1. Enrichner system plugged, not properly functioning or improperly operated.
2. Fuel overflow.
3. Restricted fuel supply.
4. Plugged slow jet or passages.
5. Inlet system air leak.
For poor acceleration the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables misaligned or misrouted (may also affect idle speed).
2. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
3. Inlet system air leak.
4. Vacuum piston malfunction.
5. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
6. Plugged bowl vent.
7. Fuel level in bowl too low.
8. Restricted fuel supply passages.
9. Plugged jets or passages.
10. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
12. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.
Good luck and have a nice day.

My 2010 rmz 450 crackles and pops at low revs, and surging when cruising, also backfires when i shut of the throttle, i have fitted a wiseco fuel mangement unit and played around with it but no luck,

sounds like a few things, bad/fouled spark plug,old/clogged fuel filter/old air filter or bad fuel. When taking bikes out of storage bikes often suffer from this problem from old fuel sitting in bike gumming it up.

Erratic fueling which surges up/down,and then often cuts out when idling or at slow speed. Bike's mileage - 18,000 miles. Could it be a need for replacemement timing chain ?

Hi, Jsbramley for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. check carbs and throttle, clean float chamber. Jets are factory fixed so try second hand carbs rather than mess with these

Suspect worn needle valve & seat assembly !---Quick test , with care>Whilst riding on open road &holding throttle at set position, switch off fuel supply & note IF engine speeds up, IMMEDIATELY Back off throttle, watch rear vision mirrors for traffic behind & switch on fuel supply!---If that small test indicates Carburettor area of further examination, UNLESS YOU ARE QUALIFIED the needle valves need to be examined byTrained eye!-(Especially wear on sides of needle valve & ALSO, check "floats"Stay Upright Des

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I would suspect an air leak. Possibilities then are:
  • rubber lock/clamp, coupling from air box to each carb not seated properly, loose, misaligned or not connected;
  • torn, defective, misaligned air filter;
  • half of the air box is loose, not seated properly.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate this at all. Cheers.
