Hi,
to get a good combustion inside the engine, you(engine) needs fuel-air mixture, since it leaks fuel the mixture is too rich on air. Where does the carb leak? maybe it's just the connection that leaks...I mean where the fuel line connects to the carb, If it leaks there it also sucks in extra air instead of fuel, and therefor the engine doesnt run smooth, choke or no choke, that makes no difference. Check that and if it leaks there just change out the fuel line with a new hose.
It could also be the little rubber ring that seals of the carb, If it leaks from the top of the carb...it's the little ring. Take off the top of the carb and check the condition of the ring, if faulty.. replace it with a new one.
Hope this helps....can be pretty dangerous riding around with a leaking carb... Good luck, Gilbert.

Idles with 1/2 choke. If open choke, or throttle - engine dies without any RPM spike. Carb was cleaned, jet is clean. When idles, there is gas in the primer bulb.

Hi, Andrew and the usual suspects are:

1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.

2. Fuel filter clogged.

3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.

4. Float needle and seat sticking.

5. Float level too low.

6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.

7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.

8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.

9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.

10. Slow fuel jet clogged.

My suzuki 125 wont start I recharge the batterry and replaced the sparkplug and start during it's on choke but if I return to normal it dies. pls help me

It's a carburated bike. You need to have your carburator cleaned. It's not a difficult job, howver if you are not comfortable with what your doing a shop will charge a half hour or 1 hour o clean it for you on average.

Your carborator mixes your fuel and air. when the bike is at idle it is only getting fuel from the "idle" needle. The smallest needle in the carb. These needles are hollow. As fuel sits in the carburator for a long period of time (over 2 weeks) then the fuel can gum up and clog the neeedle. If it runs when the choke is on but dies when you take it off the choke this is what is happening:

On some bikes a "choke" doesn't actually choke it of fuel, sometimes it actually enrichens it. Your bike is probably set up to open another passage way besides the "idle" needle allowing fuel to go into the engine from another passage. you shut the "choke" off and now it only has the idle needle to get fuel from. If that's clogged the bike dies.

A can of carb clean and a screw driver is usually all you need to clean a carb. But if done wrong you will pay more to have a pro fix it.

I have a 2003 ttr225 I can get the bike to start with the choke on ihave to let it warm up for an extremly long time before I can push in the choke . once the bike is warm and I hit the throttle hard ,...

Sounds like the idle circuit in the carb is restricted. The engine is running on the choke only. When the engine reaches a certain temp the fuelthat does get is more readily burned allowing you to back off the choke. The choke probsbly can't be completely opened? right? Fuel quality is also something to consider Oil content in fuel affects combustion temps and volatility. _good luck_Ned_

I have got an Honda ***,two months back. The problem is it does not start until the choke is pulled. I even informed the dealer during the first service but no changes have been made.

if it needs choke even when the engine is warm, then the carburator mixture might be slightly lean. You will have to tell the dealer again and maintain it needs to be fixed. This might be fixed with air screw adjustment or a larger idle jet.

(I once worked in a honda shop, and honda doesnt always pay dealers for this work, they say nothing is broken, so it is not warranty. this may be why the dealer is reluctant to spend time, but I would ask them again, write the fault down on a letter and give it to them with the bike so they cannot say they were never told.)

Kawasaki Ninja 250 running problem

This could be due to timing screw being incorrectly set
Locate gold timing screw on the carbrettta turn it clockwise only slightly till bike idles without choke on, Then when choke it on it should idle a touch higher.

My 2001 Yamaha YZ 250F won't idle without choke. Bogs out with choke off. Idles just fine with choke on. What could be the problem and could i fix it in my garage?

You will have to clean the carburator there seems to be dirt in it thus obstructing the free flow of gas through the jets.

Hope you have some idea about carburators.

Please visit this site search for carburator ..you will get the basic idea to it.
There you will also find 'Other motocycles" click in there and you maight gt a solution to your bike.

1194 VT1100 trouble starting. no problems prior to letting it sit

To begin with ...try to check if there is gas in the float chamber of the carburator/carburators by unscrewing the drain screw at the bottom of the carburator.
Secondly check if there is sparks coming to the spark plugs..off course remember to wipe dry the gas around the bike's engine!
If you have both of this , it should start ... you may hve to use the choke to start.
Let me know if it did start .thks .
Hope this will help!.
