DOUG > What's the deal? You cut the cog lead edges? At an inward angle to the slider core to encourage less chance of disengaging? Is this what you are talking about?

Hi Jason..

I had exact same problem.. bottom line I had to replace selector forks (all three) and second gear cog.. If u do replace a gear cog then please take a tip from me (lesson hard learn't). Have all your gears undercut at the same time or it will slip out of another gear.. I got my bike back after 2 nd gear done and on the same day 3 rd gear started to slip. Had to send bike back and have all the cogs undercut... Now its fine.

And yes u do need to remove motor to open gearbox and u will need to replace gaskets..

Doug

I have Honda V65 magna motorcycle it pops out of second gear

The reason for that problem is damage to the drive dogs on the 2nd drive and driven gear.they have 90° edges on them and if they wear (usually from bad gear changes) they throw each other apart and shoot out to neutral in the case of 2nd.so there clarify to fix it you need to be able the engine out and split the cases to get the gearbox out and change the damaged gears.

1st to 2nd Gear Engagement Issue

bent selector fork on the gearbox, and that would be a full engine strip no doubt about it, any more use of it will cause a screwed gearbox and thats mega money!

get it to a mechanic or buy a haynes/clymer manual to help.

This answere might be too late for you...
Sounds like your gearbox is a bot loose. Don't buy it! If the clutch does not completely disengage it will be harder to shift gears. But jumping into neutral after 3rd sounds like a worn out gearbox.

that's a bad neutral safety switch...it's a shop repair...now, the reason it goes bad:

the 1st gear is for getting the bike moving, period...you "never" wind out in 1st gear...ever...high rpm and going from 1st to 2nd is very bad for a transmission...think about how much movement is happening to go from the bottom, past neutral, to 2nd gear...that's where most trans damage occurs...once you start moving, go to 2nd, then rev it out... remember...1st gear is for getting moving only...

Transmission slipping

Since the clutch pack is working, cable, etc, then it is not any of that. Kinda leaves shift linkage in the transmission and the 3 shift forks, bearing, gears and the like. All of these components require engine removal and the case split to repair. I would check the linkages prior to the transmission and their adjustment first. Hope this helps you with your scoot.
