Hi,

This is a mechanical oil seal. In order to replace it, you will have to remove the right hand side engine cover. The seal is located in this cover.

If you are not an experienced mechanic then you should take your bike to a dealer.
NB use the genuine part for this bike.

Good luck

Jon

2001 yz `125 bogs on hard throttle and blows a lot of smoke

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Oil tank/pan overfilled.
2. Restricted oil return line to oil tank/pan.
3. Restricted breather operation.
4. Restricted oil filter.
5. Piston rings badly worn or broken.
6. Valve guides worn and or seals worn, crushed, missing, or have come of guide and are literally pumping oil through the valve guide.
7. O-ring damaged or missing from oil pump at crankcase junction (also results in poor engine performance). For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

I have a 1998 yz 125 and im finding water in the gear case and i replaced both seals in the water pump where could it be coming from

If we are to assume it's coolant and not water being introduced through the crankcase vent hose, there are only two possible places for this transfer to occur - the water pump seals or the clutch case cover gasket. Those are the only two direct interfaces between the coolant and the transmission fluid that exist on that bike.

You replaced the seals - did you replace the bearing too?

hi mate the crank shaft and gearbox are completely seperate lubrication if you are getting water in the gearbox its your water pump seal gone there easy to replace just take the hole cover off and its straight forward from there or if water is in the crank then your head gasket has blown propally due to being old just make sure if you replace the head gasket you retighten the bolts after an hour or so of riding many thanks

Oil is a grey colour in the engine of my yz 125 2001

Your bike is water cooled. Some of that water is leaking into the gear box. The cylinder gasket is the likely leak. I would let the shop take a look at it instead of trying to fix it yourself.

But be sure there is not an external source for the water. Do you wash the bike often? Ride the creek bed often? Leave the bike where the lawn sprinkler gets the bike wet? Leave it out in the rain? Change the oil and keep the bike dry. If the problem comes back then go see the dealer.

Water leak/mixing with oil

change the seal behind the water pump impeller
the shifter shaft seal will stop leaking
if it continues to mix water and oil you will have to change the head gasket

Yes, the water seal is leaking. This is the indicator hole for the water and oil seal.
Enjoy the ride !
