My kx125, can still start it and ride it without a lot of compression, it only gets compression about half way towards the bottom when kicking it, but it does start.. Any ideas??

Hi, Colin you may have a kicking gear engagement issue, do a compression test when the engine is at operating temperature should be around 125-130 psi. for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please visit the websites below. How do I change the shift shaft on my 2000 kx250?

First, did it break or is it bent or is it stripped? These all require different approaches once you get the right side of the engine clear, clutch removed, etc... TAKE PICTURES WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS to make sure you put everything back where it belongs. Do you have a clutch hub holder? (IMPORTANT) Do you have a air wrench, you will have a large clutch nut (24-26MM?) to remove and then reinstall the nut with the correct torque! If you do not have these tools, PLEASE take it to a PROFESSIONAL. He will have all the tools necessary. If the shift shaft is broke or bent it is going to be more difficult because it is a tight fit through the engine cases, they are aluminum and they will break if the shaft is forced out!! You will have to carefully saw the shaft off CLOSE to the case as possible before attempting to remove it.
If its just stripped, it can be filed or sanded down, cleaned, and removed easily. Change the shift shaft seal too!!!
If this is your first time to try this... and you don't have any of the tools I mentioned, PLEASE take it to a professional!!

How do you change the crank

Pull the engine out of the frame. Remove the top end. Remove left and right side case covers. Remove the clutch, crank drive gear, shift shaft assembly, kick start assembly, water pump, rotor, stator base assembly, sprocket and miscellaneous other small items. Remove all case screws then split the case halves using a case splitter tool. Be sure to install new crank bearings and seals. You can see an exploded diagram of the engine at the following website. Please rate my answer, thanks.

I have a 2000 kx250 2-stroke I have jetted it per the pipe mfr and it starts 1st or 2nd kick when coold. When it is hot you need to kick the @&$(% out of it b-4 it will start.

sounds like it's flooding...majority of pipes "don't" require jetting in older 250's...if they sent the jets with the pipe, find a happy medium in the numbers...for instance; if you had a 118 stock, and they said use 124, use a 120 instead...bottom line, you gotta reduce the fuel...quick trick ? just loosen the clamps on the carb and turn it sideways and remove the don't have to remove the carb to re-jet...

How do i put a 2001 kx250 kick shaft back in

Jan 06, 2010 | 2003 kawasaki KX 250

My 2001 kx250 keeps breaking kick shafts after 15 or 20 kicks. i've replaced the spring, bushing, circlips, washers and now two kick shafts.

i am not as familiar with kawaski's but a friend told me that certain kx's and yz's had poor quality shafts that were brittle?

the couple of broken shafts that i've seen were caused by the kicker being kicked so aggressively that when it contacts the stop. the stop acts as a fulcrum transferring the load to the shaft thus breaking it and possibly the case to.

Kick start broke and case broke

the kick start broke or did the shaft that the kick start bolts to?, if the shaft broke, you will need to remove the case and replace the shaft. as for the case, depends on how bad it broke, some people can weld alum. but i would buy a new case. and then install kick start on new shaft
