XT660Z yamaha tenere headlight not working problem

Hi, Mathew if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

Why wont the Headlight and Highbeam indicator wont work

Does the headlight itself work? Will it switch from low beam to high beam? If the lights work but just the indicator is bad, then perhaps the problem is in the indicator socket (corrosion or loose connection) or the wiring to the indicator (bad connector, break in the wire or printed circuit board trace). If the lights don't work, it could be the handlebar switch is failing but it's more likely to be the wiring coming from the bars to the handlebar pivot area.

I have a 2005 Yamaha R1 and the highbeams wont work and the blue indicator light wont light up when the switch is turned to high beams.. the lights are new and are all connected correctly.

Hi,
check your headlight relay for loose connections or a bad wire from the relay to the headlight.
Turn off the ignition and if you have a multimeter set it to Ohms and check the wiring for continuity from from the relay to the headlight.
It could also be a bad wire from the handlebar switch to the relay.

You could reverse the two wires at the relay that are feeding your headlight. Obviously the high and low beams will be switched on in reverse, but if the high beam comes on in low beam setting then the headlight and wiring are OK but the high beam contact in the relay is no good, (in which case you would replace the relay) or the handlebar switch or the wiring from it to the relay are bad.
Ask more questions if you want.

Cheers, Steve

Can a lightbar be wired into the headlight without the wiring harness. If so how, what wire goes where. What is required

You could tie into the high beam or the low beam wire to power the lights. But, they will turn on only when that circuit is used. If it is tied into the low beam they will turn off when you switch to high beam. To tie in you should be able to splice into the harness right at the standard headlight plug in the headlight bucket.

Spot lights go off when on highbeam.would like them on,high or low beam 2006 flhtcu

This is by design. You would have to remove your front fairing and trace the wire that is spliced into the yellow highbeam wire and connect it to another source. This can be bad because depending on where you connect it your passing lamps would not go off when you turn off the ignition....my FatBoy is wired like that.....and yes I have drained the battery once or twice.
Hope this helps.
