Speedometer not working

On a mechanical (cable driven) speedometer, the problem's the drive unit, the cable, or the speedo head itself.

You stated the cable is good, so let's eliminate that.

You can attach the inner and outer cable to the speedo head, chuck the bottom end of the inner cable in a drill motor, and spin it to see if the speedo head responds.

If not, new speedo needed.

It both the cable and speedo head are good, then it's the speedometer drive (I believe it's in the rear brake backing plate) is probably bad.

Remove it and inspect/replace.

Speedometer light up mileage will not change nor does trip mileage change please help

Does the speedometer work (registers speed)? If it does, then the push button switch is faulty. If the speedo does not work (does NOT register speed) then probably the speedometer has failed.

The speedometer, odometer, and mileage on my 1997 Kawasaki 1500 Classic have stopped working. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

it;s most likely the cable but it could also be the drive gear or the speedo its self. remove cable from speedo and start the bike if cable turns its the speedo then just work your way back

Speedometer on 1997 Yamaha Majesty not working,

Ken Budd's answer is incorrect: There is only a potential engine problem when the oil light comes on permanently.

The speedo/mileometer on thge Majesty normally sends pulses to a counter that switches on the oil-change warning light at 3,000 km. If the speedo/mileometer ceases to function the oil-change warning light blinks steadily simply to let you know the pulses aren't getting sent to the counter.
The most likely problem is a broken speedo cable; a new one costs £5.72 from AJSutton and you can easily fit it yourself: Take off the windscreen then reach through the gap above the headlamp to unscrew the outer cable beneath the speedo.

I've got the same problem as you right at the moment with my 1996 Majesty but in my case its the gear unit on the front axle (to which the speedo cable connects) that has stopped working: I'm currently on the look out for a new gear unit. Does anybody have one ?

I have a vespa GT125 which is extremely sluggish

-such strange behaviour very often occurs when the rollers (& belt) in the variator case are worn, they have to be replaced by a dealer.
-they have a lifetime of only 12'500miles (20'000km) !

My 1995 1200cc sportster has got water in speedo clock can it be repaird i have lost all the mileage and the speedo stops at 30mph

There are speedometer repair services out there but they usually specialize in the repair of "collectables" like the repair of a speedometer for a 1941 EL model. They are also quite proud of their work if you get my drift.

Since replacement speedos are available through the dealer for you bike, I'd suggest you simply replace your speedo unless there is some reason that I don't know of that would complicate this. I would stick with OEM equipment as the aftermarket stuff is of poor quality in most cases. Good Luck!

Suddenly today the speedo and mileage counter has stopped working

Hi, Carl331 for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix/test or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. For more information about your issue please visit the website below. Good luck and have a nice day. DOWNLOAD 2004 Aprilia Atlantic 125
