Question about 1999 Yamaha YZF-R6

1 Answer

My 1994 Yamaha R6 will not shut off. We turn the key off and the lights and bike are still running but the tail light shut off. We have to take out fuses every time we park and have to put them back in to leave.

Hi, You should not be using the key to turn the bike off. Is there a problem with the engine kill switch on the handlebars?

Wont start at all

If you have no light you can't even hot wire it sounds like the ignition switch is bad in the start and run positions.

Blikers only work with running lights off

You have the tail light you just installed wired wrong or if the new tail light is a LED tail light your looking at the LED's possibly not drawing enough power to make the flasher work. change the flasher to a LED specific one.

Yamaha r6 braking lights

Start with a new brake\tail bulb, then try unplugging the front brake switch on the handle bars , then try unplugging the rear brake switch. one of these options should locate a problem

Have a 05 r6 when i turn key on nothing happens, if i jump across starter relay bike starts and runs. neutral indicator light comes on, no gauges need help

Hi, Jburgh1961 and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
11. Check for engine trouble codes.

I just buoght a 2002 r6 and the kid that had it put diffrent turn signals on and they both bling when you turn the right turn signal on

Something is grounding out.
If I had to guess I would say between the tail light and the connectors under the seat. it is pretty exposed and easy to rub bare so that it will ground out. here is a diagram for you..

Integrated tail problem

firstly ground them two wires and see what happens

you have got something screwed up if you gotta take fuses out to get stuff to work.

i find it easy if i draw what i have on paper first. you should have 3 wires for tail and 2 each for turns. those maybe 3 blacks, 1 green, 1 brown, 1 blue, 1 yellow.

you can get a free download service manual here it will have the correct wiring diagrams for your bike. it shoudl help
